The effect the City 17 explosion had on the combine...

Seeing the combine in Episode 2 clearly shows that the combine forces are in disarray and that they must re-group somewhere near white forest, but how badly do you think this explosion and destruction of the capital (pressumably) affected the combine.

I think the trans-human combine are finished, with almost no chance of regaining control of earth...After seeing and 'translating' the Freeman Pontifex Overwatch orders, its clear that the city 17 army is too far gone to be repaired.

Well, seeing as the combine caused the explosion (The could have fixed the core without it blowing up, even if they left it, it would take a few years for even that piece to short out.) There's likely nothing in disarray for them. They even seem pretty organized in this episode.

So, since the portal the explosion created was destroyed (That being the only way to do it) I think it will only take a short time for the combine in another city to blow up a citadel and bring forces through to destroy the resistance. I think the satellite was just an effort to buy some time. Now they have to go to the next city and evacuate the population.

Least, that's what I think.

The explosion isolated Earth--cut it off from the rest of the Combine empire. It stranded the Overwatch/Advisors and crippled their communication both on and off-world. The cities can't communicate with one another either.

Yeh, the combine did cause the explosion, only because they need renforcements. And the citadel core couldnt have been repaired, with the dark fusion reactor destroyed and all kinds of communication cut off, the core had a critical ammount of energy, which is probably one reason why the combine decided to use that energy to fire off the message and cause the portal storm.

Well there'd still be large amounts of Synths per City, but they would be limited now.

All we know is that the teleport linkway between the Citadels and the Combine homeworld is severed, but I dont think that implies that the other Citadels on Earth cannot produce Synth or Combine endlessly. But as long as the linkway remains closed, then humanity should be ok, although even that is hard to say not knowing the situation of other cities around the globe.

If that linkway is ever established again though, humanity is ****ed.

It seems odd that a rebellion against the Combine would be limited to one city.

The rebels clearly have a fairly established infrastructure outside of the city itself, and no doubt they probably have communications to cells all around the world.

The Combine present a threat no doubt but an overwhelming one?, less likely.

No, the other citadels would discover the destruction of the dark fusion reactor and a huge loss of power from the City 17 citadel and then, I'm sure they have scanners which would detect or find the portal storm afterwards. Which rebels may find out about, causing a rebellion, maybe not in all cities because some rebel forces would lose, but some would succeed

No they wouldn't, because all contact was severed with the destruction of that Citadel, all forms of electronic communication, unless someone went there themselves and reported back, the other cities wouldn't have a clue.

All forms of electronic communications were not severed because there are numerous instances where Gordon and Alyx are communicating with Eli, Kleiner, and Magnusson. I imagine that the resistance it world wide but strongest in the combine capital of city 17.

I think the loss of the Citadel in that area was really no biggie. I'm sure there are many other areas on Earth that have other Citadels ruling that area. Although... 2 people taking that thing down.. Is a little far fetched in my opinion. I still liked the experience.

The explosion hurt the combine cause if you remember there were alot of them in the citadel and in c17. Which means they lost alot of men.
