The end (spoilers)

Hi all.

I have a question about the end, well, two acually:

A friend of mine told me that the ending sucks on easy mode. I played it on medium, does the game have diffrent endings? When i finished the game, the teleporter exploded and time stopped. The G-man appeared saying something about 'it's that time again'. My big question is: "does Alyx die?". I thought she was a cool character. It would be cool too see things develop if she also appears in HL3, since she showed feelings for Gordon in the final levels.

Ive beat it on all skill levels and the endings are all the same.
As for the second part she does die
 
They said so in an interview a while ago, i printed it off, here is the exact quote, i will actually look for it in the archives as well.

The question was "are there any plans for half life 3"

And this is the exact quote from gabe:

"Absolutley. We've alrwady written a continue of a story and there are still lots of stuff to tell. We also want to develop other characters int he game such as Alx, Barney and Dr Kliener, something we'll do in various expansion packs to half life 2 in the future but also half life 3. Right now were working at extreme pace to finish half life 2 and i wont talk about half life 3 in a long while (laughter)"

Thats the exact quote, oh and here is what else is on the print (i got it straight from these forums, posted by Crazyharij)

(Crazyharij's remark: He didnt mention Eli or gman, hmmm..)

Leading to more speculation, but thats not a problem now the game is out
 
Well, now it is official.

She is the female lead. Besides there would be a more glorious death if they decided to kill her.

People make assumptions too easily...

they are going to put ghost/spirits in hl3?!?!?! or we are going back in time to save her?!?! lawls.

Okay. Back to seriousness. if she is in hl3, yay. If she isn't they better have a good story to tell us why. Although since they said so, I am trusting them right now.

Holy shit you already beat it 3 times? Dude you must have been inside since the 16th, lol. I started playing excessively from the moment i got it (the 16th) and i just finished it today.

I wonder if Gordon dies in the 3rd part. I know it would sucks, but it wouldn't be a suprise to me.

hmm...i read the quote a couple of times, but i don't think we will see all of the aforementioned characters in hl3 :(

imo it just means that they will keep some characters for hl3, while others will only appear in some expansion packs (taking place before hl2's end).

i hope i'm wrong and alyx makes it to hl3, though :x

Game is great. :) I beat it the second day playing. Was up til Midnight. Still playing it... :)

The story was put together brillantly, felt like I reading a book during game play. I'll probably keep on replaying til an expansion comes out.
 
Haha. And i thought i was hard-core beating it within 2 weeks

I wonder what happend with DOG... I miss that lil' puppy and his car-throwing-skills..
 
Haha, dude, I beat HL2 the day after it came out, it took me 13 hours to beat (no including time to sleep eat and piss).

I beat it on medirum the first time, (found it easy) and hard mode the second time which took me 2 days (about 14 hours of play. But then again, I suppose I am a HL1 hardcore player so HL2 was easy for me to pick up.

HL2 could of been longer, and I felt it was quite short IMO, but then again the engine must have taken AGEEES to make (6 years :P) so you can let valve off.

HL2 was a simple FPS as far as I am concerned, ppl who say HL2 is taking them ages and that they are stuck, clearly dont play FPS enough or have little experiance picking up how the game world works and how Half-Life and FPS work.

That was stupid. Some of us have lives. And can't play all the time. Now stop bragging about your lack of a life and move on.
 
I only just beat it today and i found it the longest FPS shooter i have ever played, it took longer to finish than Farcry.

When you've been waiting for about 3 years. You make time.

24 hours in a day. Average day
6 1/2 hours in classes/on campus.
45 minutes driving.
8 hours sleeping.
1-2 hours working around the house.
3 hours down time.
1 hour bathing, ect

Well... 11.16.04 came around.

Driving time went to about 15 minutes.
Sleeping time went to about 5 hours
Working around house went to about 0 hours.
Bathing, ect remained the same

So, downtime + 3 hours from sleep + 30 minutes from driving
6.5 hours. :) Not bad.

Hell yea! They should had included him in some more scenes i think. All parts he was in where awesome. I laughed my ass off.

Well, maybe it just depends on your playing style. I could had also runned trough the levels like a maniac, but i choose to do it slow and easy, to see the beauty of the game.

Some parts we're real tricky actually, took me 13 hours on medium (including at least 2 hours of FAQ/Walkthrough reading to find out how to get through Ravenholm etc... damn that place) and around 15 hours on hard. At most times you could plow through it, and the Ravenholm map was IMO a cheap trick to make the game last longer. For christ sake, ''Dog'' can easily take on a tank and battles a dropship, but he cant clear some rocks so we can join up with Alyx/Eli again? Pff!

Worst part was that Alyx accompanied you for 5 mins then went to open a door and was gone for a few hours... that sucked, missed her and that little doggie with his ''car-throwing-skills''
 
it took me about 15 hours the first time i played trough it ..
second time it took me twice as long, and the third time will take even longer :P
replayability is definitely one of hl2s strengths.

Alyx might not have survived. In that Gabe quote, he's refering mostly to a future expansion pack, which might happen at the same time as Hl2, like OP4 did.

After all, how would she have made it out safely?
 
The G-Man can take her out at the same time as Gordon. He takes Gordon into the Axis then pops back in and plucks Alex next..remember, time has stopped at the end, so he can chat to Gordon then deposit him safely and return to snatch Alex next ;)

Or maybe the Vorts grab her while the G-Man disappears with Gordon :)
