Simple question: what rating would you give Half-life 2 and why? Right now (while still in Ravenholm, so a long way to go) I'm tending towards a 9.9 (rounded of that's still a 10). I'm deducting 0.1 for the bugs and shear frustration of getting the game installed. But for the rest it's pefect: a FPS that does everything it should do and more.

Sorry, I gotta disagree with you. Being a reviewer I know that - although I personally love the game - the game will get some cons, not only 0.1. With the amount of returned copies rising steadily this is not just a normal "pain in the ass" install, it's much more. Bugs play a role.

Try to be more objective :) But I hate those ratings where you have little measurements to fit it in (i.e. 100% is better, more possibilities).

My two.

Alrighty. A 9.6 then. That's still a 10. About the installing part: that's true, but since you are a reviewer, you'll know that magazines and most sites get a review copy, so they won't be aware of any installing problems either.

On Gamerankings, HL2 scores a 9.7 right now with almost 20 reviews in.

I would say a 9. When you start introducing decimal points, ratings mean a lot less to me. How -exactly- do you come up with a 9.6? Better to say 9 or 10... and this game isn't a 10. A 9, but not a 10.

finally my first post

finished this jewel sf story, breathin again

10 - it exceeded my expectations by far - even after seeing soo many screenies and vids :)

thank you valve 4 this
the hype was worth it

Soz, didnt see that. I'll leave it to the mods' mercy then.

I give it a 9. It's an excellent game, a lot of fun, but not quite as revolutionary as Valve led us to believe it would be.

10
this game is the best FPS game I have ever played, and one of the best (if not THE best) gaming experience I have had.

kudos to Valve, for living up to even my lofty expectations.
unfortunately now I need expansion packs/mods/deathmatch mode/TF2!!!!
no other game compares, and that means I have a hard time playing anything else :(

Actually the review copy was the same others bought. I got a steam key for it and a retail box, both like everyone else can buy it. Needed unlocking like everyone else.

a quick taste of greatness leaves gamers in awe and wait... :E
kinda ironic eh? first wait for the game.. and now the mods.. but yeah after seeing what has been done with HL2, its exciting thinking what will be done with mods.

This is the best FPS shooter I've ever played. Graphics. Sound. The bar has been raised. But for HL2 the game; giving it a 10 leaves no room for improvment. There were some parts of the game I didn't think fit. The first chapter was AMAZING and I didn't even have a weapon. I loved the atmosphere. It had an almost X-Files feel to it (GMan and Cancer Man similarities anyone?). When I went into that room with the guard and there was blood on the floor I was really worried. When it turned out to be Barney I was so happy.

The boat scene was maybe a little long. I loved it but it seemed a little too scripted.

I only just finished Ravenholm and even though I enjoyed that chapter it didn't have the same feeling for me. It felt more like Max Payne. (Esp. with the priest's accent). I could have done without it. (or enjoyed it in another game entierly) It just left me feeling far from the HL2 world that had so enthawled me in the first 2 chapters.

So as far as the Source Engine goes it gets the highest marks to date. This game is amazing to look at and the physics are SICK! (I love shooting cinder blocks with the grav gun) but the game itself gets on 9.2 (think of it as the highest score to date but leaves room for improvment).

A solid 9.0, don't get me wrong its a terrific game and not much else can even be worthy of being debated as better. I just rate it low because I prefer to rate games low. I give HL1 a 9.0 and Zelda OoT a 9.2 so my rating is actually pretty high.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

My steam version unlocked in 15 minutes, then I played the entire game without a single bug, and that's it.

So why is everyone complaining?

I havn't played it yet, but its 10 :)

My pc is comin in 2 weeks
