It's not that common for Steam to receive major themed updates, but today marked the arrival of "The Steam Discovery Update" and a brand new Steam Store.

The Steam Discovery Update, as you can see, has introduced an all-new blue visual theme, a new layout, and a whole host of brand new functionality. As previously teased by unearthed programming code, the new Steam Store is focused on customised shopping and a more personalised experience, allowing users to organise the layout of their storefront in a manner which suits them best while using many new search filters to more easily find games or software related to their interests and purchasing decisions.

Entire sections of the Steam store can be hidden from view, and new areas, such as "Discovery Queues", offer users dynamic ways of finding new content they may enjoy. Another new section, known as "Steam Curators" offers users, organisations, and groups the opportunity to become something of a Steam celebrity, building a following as they review games and software in a public forum. Other users may then follow the curator, much like any other social media site, in order to receive alerts about new community activity associated with that individual or group, such as if, for example, ValveTime were to post a new review.

Today's announcement also revealed Steam has surpassed 100M active users sometime in the past nine months after it was announced the service reached 75M active accounts back in January 2014. This new number is obviously extremely impressive, but it couldn't really be less surprising given how Steam continues to grow and improve on such a regular basis.

There's a whole lot more to check out within the new Steam layout, and a lot more details can be found over in the full Discovery Update changelog at the bottom of the announcement page. We've set up our own Steam Curator page if you'd like to head over and follow it! (That was an instruction, not a request!) Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Round-Up to upload.

So... Much... Blue. Can't say that's a bad thing. The Curators section was a pretty brilliant idea as well, definitely a step in the right direction!

I like how it looks and its a great update overall... EXCEPT!

Why in the ass is this menu:

...so down in the Steam store page? This menu is really practical, but now its buried under everything :/

the next step should be the option to position every window of the store as you wish I guess ;)

Even tho that would be TOTALLY AWESOME, I doubt Valve will do that because they get a lot of money from advertising games in the store page. The first window is just for that - advertising :C

They certainly are. I wrote that bit at about 3am, so excuse the mistake. :p

I hope they will update the Android app sometime too, because it is like 2 years old and misses a lot of recent features.
