Bascially, you fight and you get points for kills, flag captures, assists, repairing, destroying, rearming, healing and reviving. These points then get added up and once you get a certain amount of points you rank up. Some ranks allow you to unlock weapons.

I was late into the BF2 buy. I found myself playing the demo alot, and it made good sense to buy. Once i was free of just Gulf of Oman and learn the other maps, like Karkand, Sharqi etc, i was overjoyed with my purchase, its only brought me entertainment since January. If you are in a similar position, i'd go for it. (i found BF2 for £20 in GAME t'other day, barg!)
Make sure you think carefully about unlocks though, the gap in ranks get biggers and unlocks are less frequent as you play more, so pick well. Some people prefer their classes normal gun to the unlock, some unlocks are much better, just do your reading and you'll be fine. As said above www.bf2s.com is great, and www.secretsofbattlefield.com is very useful too.

It's a good game, however very frustrating at times.
Example: I was a sniper, and had a claymore setup, claymores don't go off for friendlys so they wont tk people. But there was an enemy running up the staircase followed by a friendly with his knife drawn, the claymore went off for the enemy, killed them both and he punished me. Any amount of thought on this will clearly lead you to conclude you died because you are an idiot.
When your running behind an enemy with a knife, and in the center of his body you see a red skull and crossbones with a number than keeps getting smaller, you should maybe stop.

I believe that it's because of his location. Being in Australia throws any decent times out for clan matches because of timezone difference.AiM said:Why not?

Actually the minimum requirement is an FX 5700. I have an FX 5500 and am just getting by. It's basically and overclocked 5200, so I'm near your situation lucid. But I overclocked mine a bit and have noticed a boost, so I'll get to speeds your card couldn't reach. Like AiM said, have you optimized much? Defrag, cleanups, etc. Close any programs when playing like messenger and such.

Overclocking is a surefire way to get a boost, closing down ALL non-windows essential programs (I use a program called EnditAll2), CCleaner to wipe off useless data / registry clean, defrag, updating drivers / BIOS ... check for spyware.
You could also trying using 3rd party driver's that has optimized tweaks, they occasionally offer an extra fps or two.
