Anyone notice that originally the large dome-topped building with the courtyard (the last major firefight before you enter the citadel) had combine-esque metallic structure on the front of the dome prior to your entering it, and lacked the metallic beams after you exited? Not that I'm being anal... the game is superb... damn near perfection. Was just taking some screenshots for a wallpaper and noticed it after reviewing them.

Here's a link to the screenshots...

Anyone notice similar things like this?

I dunno but something I did notice is in kleiner's lab when you are with alyx barney, and the doc, you can mess around with a small teleporter system that has a plant on it. I was able to remove the plant and transport a barrel with some luck. The thing was, though, that if I kept the plant on one platform and take a soda can from over by those liquid containers and put it next to the plant, then activate the teleporter it goes through the process and burns out the teleporter and the things are gone. Of course this is a sign of what's to come with the whole headcrab jumping in with you on the large teleporter. '_'

More interesting stuff in the dome-topped building... screenshots...

It's latin. If you read it as in the screenshots, it translates "No one contradicting, through struggle to the stars." Keeping in mind that the two sentences encircle the dome, one after the other. It could also be read "Through struggle to the stars, no one contradict." Cool stuff...

but also remember, barney says "that it was a church or a library or what ever the hell it was"

It can't be a coincidence that that writing is on the ceiling, especially because a hole is blown in the roof and there is a perfect view of the Citadel with the words inscribed right beneath the hole.

Very good post Mickey, on of the most insightful ones here.

I dont recall barney saying that

ps its a museum

Thanks Sirchee! Nick, Barney says something about what the building was when you first catch sight of the museum/whatever... althought it might've only been something along the lines of "I think it was an old museum or something." He says it along the same time of when he mentions the "suppressor will keep... uh... supressing..." =)

anyone seen that was typed in that museum
some thing in latin i think
i dont remeber what stod there but look it up i saw a screenshot in this forum

Barney says it was a bank or a museum or something. As for the metal Combine structure, maybe it moved. Those things DO sometimes move around in the game.

doesn't "through struggle to the stars" normally read "per ASPERA ad astra"? cuz the screenshot doesn't say aspera, it says A[something]dea. my latin isn't very well... any ideas?

Anybody noticed that Alyx hums really really quietly to herself when she's working?

I posted this in another thread but in Alyx's father's lab in the left hand corner when you get off the elevator there is an article about the earth losing a 7 hour war. Anyone else notice this? I didn't play hl 1 but I've read summaries on the story so is this refering to just when all the aliens teleported in?

The 7 hour war had little to do with the Aliens that started to teleport in during the resonance cascade. Those were a differnt type of Xen Alien. The 7 hour war most likely refers to the short time it took for the Combine to overpower Humanity.

charred corpses everywhere seemed a bit weird to me.

One of the combine units to be cut from the final HL2 was a unit that had a flame thrower. This unit was supposed to be sent in and clear an area of city seventeen of living organisms. Better description in the book, but I’m tooooooo lazy to go look and copy it word for word, oh, I do remember that there is a severed head of this unit in Eli’s lab, somewhere, erh, don’t ask where I don’t know!

So I guess they forgot to adjust the corpses when they decided to cut the unit.

With referance to the first post on this thread: I don't reckon that's a mistake. As you play through the combine citadel structure expands out into the city. you even see it moving right next to you in at least one section. I think it's reasonable to asume that is has just changed later on in the game (or maybe it's just me not wanting to admit there is a flaw in this most spectacular of games).

I was thinking of the fact that the combine structures seem to move, too... but the combine stuff was there first, then not... the moving structures seem to always crush and destroy whatever they appear on... seems like the one on the dome building would've had to have appeared and disappeared without any actual contact with the building... w/e... being anal now  Just something I noticed.... =)

in both Kleiner and Vance's labs theres alot of interesting newspaper clippings about the Seven Hour War and other things. There's a picture of the Black Mesa team on the wall in Kleiner's lab (you all probably saw it, since Kleiner straightens it before the teleporter sequence) that in addition to having Gordon also has a man with his head missing... scratched out. I presume this is Breen.

There's also a little kid's drawing on the wall that says "Uncle Kleiner" in little kids handwriting, I thought it was sort of cool.

Valve probably had a lot of fun doing all of these little textures.

that is a picture of "uncle kleiner" drawn by alyx--look at the lower right corner of the drawing--"Alyx" is scribbled.

Really? Cool. Little Alyx is all grown up and trying to seduce Gordon. :P
