I want to take some screenshots that look _amazing_ to use in desktops, etc. Fan-art and other wowers for nay-sayers of PC gaming (IE: Advocates (loud ones) of the XBox 360).

My question is, what are the cvars that I can use to make the source engine not dynamically take away my polygons? I want everything to look as if it were running on the very top end hardware available today. I do have a DX9 compatible card but I don't care about framerates (since this is for screenshot purpose only).

I just want to turn EVERYTHING up. :D

Thanks,
-Sam

Just go into the graphics/video options in the main menu and turn it all to high. I think that's the way :).

Umm, I think he's reffering to the fact that no matter what settings you're using, the details on objects far away still will lower in detail because otherwise it would perform a terrible amount of FPS.
Level of Detail(Distance?) (LoD) I think it's called.

To be honest, I'd like to know that too.

try r_lod -5
increases polygone count or r_lod 5 significantly lowers polygone count
my pc is r_lod -2 as standard.
hope this helps

normally when u take a screenshot its only 90 % quality, so remember to put jpeg_quality 100 :)
