This game similiar to Condemned:Criminal Origins, but much more disturbing and bloody.

You are in an expedition for trying to find this rare bird in Northern Canada, 27 km away from a fictional city whith roughly 800,000 inhabitants. The game is entirely in first person, and uses the same engine Condemned uses, but a bit more gun focused.

So it's nighttime[9:00] and your group, that consists of 16 people. You guys came here in a couple of jeeps, but plan to procede by foot up a mountain a couple of kilicks away Carlin tells you and Parsons to go fill up the container for water from a well. So you an Parsons[who's a very easily scared fellow/you see him swing his flashlight around at the slightest sound, wipes sweat from his forehead etc.] go and fill up the container. You hear noises far off, sounds like screaming. You and Parsons run back and you see pure gore. Ripped tents, with blood on them, mangled bodies, impossible to identify, smashed in heads, use your imagination.

Then another guy come out of the woods, holding a rifle. He was part of your expidition, and claims he just came now from hunting. He's a mean looking guy, with a leather jacket, black hair and a permanent sneer on his face. His name, you rememeber is Carver. He goes to a box, takes out a shotgun, throws it at you, then takes out a pistol and throws it a Parsons, who drops it. Parsons accuses Carver, claims it's conveniant that he 'just came'. You tell Parsons to shut up. Carver tells you that we should probably go into the city or radio for help. So you go fiddle with the radio, static, while Parsons and Carver go try the jeep. After a stall or two, the jeep starts and you pile in. Your lids get heavy and you fall asleep.

You get shaken up by Carver. You've been sleeping for an hour, and now their in the city. The city looks nearly normal, except for a bit of destruction, and that fact that it's deserted. And their bloods on a lot of walls. The jeep stops. Carver curse, goes for the extra oil and realises their isn't. He gets out[so do you] and notices a hole in the car, which made the gaz leak out. So you guys start on foot. &You find a city map and Carver tells us that we have to split up to cover the town and find out what happened. I know that's a plot hole, shut up:sniper:

So you wander around the city, piecing together the clues, and finding out the mystery. The game is non-linear, has big enviroments, not as big as GTA, but big considering the fact that nearly every place you can go inside, and find bodies. I'm going to post the rest of my idea[the gameplay, the disturbing bits, the scare factor etc. tomorrow cuz I need to go take a shower and I have exams tomorrow.]

I think you got your idea across in the third post.

Your idea sucked the first time.

Pfft it's not that bad...for a quick scenario overview at least...

But the fact that he made three different threads about it makes it suck...hmmm

I think he made this up since its a game idea...It is pretty good so far. IMO. Perhaps an adventrue/FPS would be a bit more fun than an FPS. This makes the player have to figure out puzzles and blast his way through scary shit. Also...how awsome would it be for the player to almost be done with a puzzle and something jumps out at him...would scare the crap out of me. Most games have it as soon as you complete the puzzle, so it would be un expected.

So they're birdwatching and someone magically has a shotgun and a pistol to toss around? ...Huh.

Its a HUNTER. And everyone knows that all hunters carry around shotguns, pistols, assault rifles, plasma rifles...obviously, jeez.

The plasma rifle is only to hunt today's modern super animals, like the jackalope and the tiger monkey.

Wow, some harsh reactions here... it didn't seem that bad to me, just needs a distinguishing factor. Give the main characters penises for fingers, and you'll be guaranteed game of the year.

You are a media ghost hunter, with physic powers and a rough past. Using everything at you disposal, you track down the existence of entities by use of cameras to thermometer even down to you acient languages and archiology university degree. However, discovering an acient tablet, a village vicar unwittingly releases an evil force upon the local countryside.

Gameplay in the beginning of the game is basic tasks such as setting up thermometers in the backroom or staying in an unlit room with a camera, trying to cath glimpses of paranormal activity. However later on, you will have to escort camera crew (the people who you work with) to safety, use sacred tomes to fend of evil spirits and even fight of adnormal creatures with whatever you can muster (Stakes, Radiators..... Toilet paper, etc).

One mission is a modern take on pac-man, where your running around, trying to collect items in and around a house before leaving the area, but at the same time being chased by ghosts (not the red, pink, white, gold variety neither)

Initially I wanted to use an engine that incorporated full-shadowing but I now don't thinks thats necessary. Instead this could be used on Source for several reasons
1) The dx9 warp effect could be used for some spirits
2) The recently introduced graining which will be a feature mostly for DOD, could be used for night-vision effects
3) HDR, when lights go out in a brightly lit room, it takes a while for your virtual eyes to adjust, which will scare some people, especially if heavy breathing and distant footsteps can be heard
4) There was a mod called nightmare house (I think anyway) where a hl2 stalker materialised at points in the game, which was a good effect.

Inspirations:
Pac-man (duh!)
Most Haunted
Nitemare 3D (I liked the music, I wonder if someone can make a 21st century version)
Evil Dead 1 (don't know why?)
Dog Soldiers
Silent Hill
Stonehenge
