I've got a graphics problem... one that I didn't have before. My DirectX Hardware level was originally automatically set at 8.1. But I was messing with the settings that I saw at HL2World :p that would force the game to use DirectX9 so that I might be able to see bumpmapping or whatever on certain NPCs. http://*************/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=15811 that's the thread for reference. Anyway, I put this in my HL2 properties -applaunch 220 -debug -condebug -mat_preloadshaders -preload -console -toconsole -give -dev -heapsize 256000 -dxlevel 90 -shaderdll shader_nvfx_ps20.dll +cl_enablehud 1. So instead it has now forced my card in the game into DirectX 7 mode. Like... what the ****. How do I possibly get it back to normal. I tried simply changing -dxlevel 90 to 81 but it didn't work. I don't have pretty water or nice shadows anymore :(

[edit]: Pfft. the URL is supposed to say hl2world .com but it just puts ***** for some reason.

[editagain]: What the hell!? Is HL2world a profanity here?

Ok, how about this. Is there a way to reinstall HL2 without having to completely delete it and redownload it?

linking to hl2world isn't allowed (AFAIK, it had something to do with them quite openly supporting the leak).

Stop running the game with those command line options (specifically, remove -shaderdll and -dxlevel), and try deleting half-life 2/hl2/cfg/config.cfg.

Hopefully, HL2 will recheck your comp. and set suitable settings.

Hmm...

Sorry dude, I can't help then. I just tried to reset mine as well (even went as far as removing the whole half-life 2 directory), to no avail. It seems that these settings must be re-written back into the .gcf.

All I can think of is making sure you aren't setting anything else to with graphics on the command line except '-dxlevel 81', and then changing all the Video options back to the original values and hope that it works.
