Urgent Help needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have downloaded and installed garry's mod many times.
Each time I install it, I install it to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\myusername.
I am pretty sure this is right.
But afte the installation is complete, I check my steam games and it is not there!.
I then restart the system and it is still not under my steam games.
Also, like with halflife2, Counter strike etc. when you click the item the game loads up. But with the Garry's Mod icon, it just installs the game again.
Another problem is, when I click the installation icon, every time it says "No STEAM installation detected! You MUST have Steam installed to use this mod.
But this is not the only software for steam that says this. I have the deathmatch software needed to make a deathmatch on Counter-Strike Source, and when i try to install this it says, no steam installation detected.
Or when i use a different method it say's. You have to have run dedicated server at least once (which i have done many times)! I was thinking this may be a glitch with my steam. What do you think. Either way i need help because I have heard Garry's Mod is a GREAT mod!:bonce:

You did put you're username and not "myusername" right?

you need to place Garry's mod in (C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Source Mods\Gmod9) restart steam then load HL2, HL2DM and CS:S and then restart steam agane if done right the game should show up in your games menu.

Hope this helps i hate seeing people haveing probs with steam
