validating steam files each time i play

:flame: this is annoying me!
everytime i run hl2(retail) i have to revalidate the steam files...
i think it might be because i have steam installed on my other computer.. is there anyway of stoping this extremely tedious process or is this just another side effect of poor copy protection methods?

There is a select box in steam in re to auto update. RIght click the game to see the menu... make sure keep up to date is not checked.

Exit out of steam and wait 10 - 20 seconds before you shut down your computer. Don't use 'end task' to close steam.
