Not really an easter egg, but interesting nevertheless.
Playing the game its apparent that some of the content is inspired by some classic sci-fi. The Striders inspired by War of the worlds, the part on the beach with the ant lions and not touching the sand was a homage to Tremors.

But playing the game there seemed to be influences from the 80's TV mini series V. An alien invader who is havesting humans and draining the planets oceans/resources, a resistance lead by scientists, a lighthouse that is a resistance HQ (although thats a bit more tenuous).

Anyway Im sure other people have probably noticed other inspirations for HL2 plot as well, but those struck me the most.

(if you've never seen V, go to the imdb and seach for V and V: The final battle).

As this is the rumour and specualtion board I had better end with my theory on the G-man ;)
The G-man is part combine/part human, I believe the 'Goverment' he is 'working' for is the combine themselves but he is a traitor and believes what the combine is doing is wrong and so is helping the humans (and in particular Gordon). This explains his inside knowledge of what the combine is up to so he always turns up at the right moment.

Come to think of it, there are a few similarities to V, they could've certaintly snapped some stuff up from all over the place, like the striders as you say.
