VCore Settings

Hi. Didn't see any specific information about VCore Settings in the OCing sticky, so I thought I'd ask

I upped my FSB/multiplier to 12.5x180, and I figured it'd be best to up my VCore by .5 (To 1.7), is this correct (or does it depends on the system/etc..)? Also, as stable as my overclocking seems, is the upped FSB suitable for my RAM (PC2700)?

Well you should only up the vcore if you're system isn't stable. So if you have lets say 12.5x180 as you do, then restart from the bios and the comp hangs, leaving you to manually reboot to the bios then that means that your vcore probably is to low. Otherwise if it boots fine and doesn't quit do desktop in games or give you other errors there's really no reason to up the vcore. And yes, that fsb is ok for your ram as long as it doesn't give you any problems.

Okay, thanks I had to drop down to 12.5x175, and it froze during 3DMark03, so I take it I need to up my vcore (as it ran for a little bit, then froze)

Looks as though my RAM isn't overclockable at all (freezes all the time with upped FSB, even with a higher vcore), I didn't really try further after 12.5x175 froze, as anything lower than that wouldn't be worth it.. I guess I'll just run at 14x166, works for me

You could try OCing leaving the Memory speed at 166mhz while just OCing the FSB. Or increase memory timings.
Do you have a nForce2 board? Lock the agp at 66mhz too that should help.
Are your multipliers unlocked? My cpu came unlocked.

I have a KT400 board (A7V8X-X), obviously not choice for OCing, but still pretty good.. (I didn't have the extra $30 for the nForce2 board)

anyhow, if I had a definite way of upping my FSB to the perfectly stable level without having any problems, I'd do it, but I always worry too much.. plus, I have no idea how to set memory timings

And yes, mine came unlocked

yeah, u'd have a barton core. My mate OC his 2500+ to a 3200+ by 11x200. Just leave the multiplyer as defult. It also depends what ram u have, i too don't have any idea about settign the memory timing, i'm just waiting to buy a better HSF tahn i'l have a go to OC my 2500+.

yeah, I OCed to 14x166 = 2.324GHz, I wanted to up my FSB, but I bought Kingston VALUERAM, and I heard that it doesn't OC well
