Video Card Question

I searched for this, but the results didn't really fully answer what I needed.
I don't know much about video card technology and such, and I've been told my nVIDIA Geforce 3 should be able to run HL2.

But all the new information released has me wondering.

Can anyone tell me what the major problems will be (at least the ones that you know of)?

Will the game be unplayable/run too slow, or will there just be jaggies.

Will the colors be messed up? If possible can anyone describe, as far as they know and all, what the pinpointed problems will be?

Just been worried lately that it will ruin my HL2 experience.. so I want to know the exact facts before I make a choice on things.

I doubt there'll be any 'problems'. But you'll probably have to compromise with the resolution, special effects, etc and you'll lose out on some of the fancier stuff the top-end DX9 cards can do. It should run ok though.

You'll be fine, just not at full-detail. And you won't get DX9 effects.

Well, what exactly are the DX9 effects I'm missing here?

And, this is already reassuring Good to hear I wont be running a choppy, unenjoyable game

Basically your bump mapping, lighting, shadows, and water effects will all be worse than DX9. But since you've never seen this effects on your card to this magnitude, you won't be missing much.

You may have to adjust detail or resolution settings, but over all you should have a decent LOD and a good framerate.

But it also depends on the rest of your machine.......

Manny has it, you should be fiiiiine. Most details on, possibly 1024x768...

don't expect AA/AF though

That would just be like... say.. it looking like the GMan video did in the steam video with the jaggies? I have no problem with that. Doesn't really bother me, and I didn't really notice them until people were screaming on the forum about them Or is that worse?

Thanks for the responces all of you. Answered a lot of my questions. The way people had been acting I thought I would have an unplayable FPS or something ;p.
