Vortigaunts incapable of side-stepping?

I noticed that they always turn around and run instead of constantly face the enemy like the Rebels and whatnot. Can they not side-step (strafe)?

Probably not because they have a mind hive (share the thoughts of all Vortigaunts) and at least one of them always has to go the bathroom. Hence the inability to side-step.

maybe its because valve didn't program them with the ability to sidestep. just maybe.

Their legs can only move front-back, back-front, not side-side.
