W_weapon models from Maya

Hey guys,

I admit this is my first post, but I've been searching for the answer to my question for two days and have been completely unable to figure this out.

I have a world model of a revolver that I wish to export to HL2. The problem is that Maya doesn't allow periods in its bone names. When I name the bone ValveBiped.Bip01_r_hand it gets changed to ValveViped_bip01_r_hand. Obviously these wont match up in game and the gun doesn't get displayed in the player's hand.

Anyway, I'm pretty much brand new to Source but over the past couple weeks I've crated, animated, textured, and imported a V_model of the revolver and crated a vehicle from scratch, all out of Maya. Is this just something stupid I'm missing, or are V_Models just impossible from Maya?
 
So, in an act of desperation I e-mailed Gabe Newell about this.

He actually replied with a solution. I just hacked the SMD, found the bone name and changed it.
