Warren Spector Interview.

Very good read indeed. He's got some great points about the console war in there too, and the hardcore-casual argument I totally agreed with. We're getting too many people dumbing down their games to make sure people who haven't played a game that often can complete it.

Yeah, a good example of a game that's dumbed down for the masses is Dues Ex: Invisible War. I say me and Warren Spector team up and beat the shit out of the guys who dumbed that game down. Oh, wait...

I actually liked Deus Ex 2 more than Deus Ex. Could never bring myself to bother moving the Deus Ex story on, yet I really liked the mod system the second uses. It's far more specialised in my opinion, and let me do what I want, and not worry about being crap at the things I don't want to use.

Greatest question/comment:

There are two very different approaches to "next-gen gaming": Microsoft's and Sony's is basically "better graphics mean better games", while Nintendo's is "different control means better games". Who is right?

Neither approach is "right." All that matters is content. The platform(s) with the best content--the coolest gameplay, the best characters and stories--will win. Overemphasis on graphics OR interface will be a costly mistake.

It goes for PC gaming as well. Content is paramount. Great interview. Can't wait to hear about his new game!
