uhm, i have a 5600 and I played the whole game on directx 8.1 decent framerates and still kickass graphics! but I was just curious and started playing it on directx9 and... there is no water!!!! the only thing you can see is the surface of the water with some noise around some objects, and it looks like the ground is doing that! there is no water in my game with directx9! I'm using 66.93 from nvidia, but I was just curoius to see if my framerates would drop a lot or no, anyway, is anyone with a fx card having this kind of problem? I'm buying a 6800 in a couple of weeks so that should be no prob for me later on.

its a bug in source
thank valve for making their wather not entirely dx9 compatible.

IIRC valve made it so that the FX brand of geforce cards would be forced to run in direct X 8.1. I would imagine this would be caused by valve not fully pursuing a dx9.0 code path for those cards.

Also make sure the drivers are at their latest version i don't know if 66.93 is the latest cause i have a radeon :)

this problem first showed up in the cs:s video stress test
was the same there.

firingsquad.com has a nice article about it
try to search their site.
i remember that the fx 5900/5800 could render the water correctly
