I beat the game, just today, im really happy with it. Although my frame rate would stutter evrey like... 30 secs... and after *loading* it would be mad choppy. That's the 2nd part of this.

What are these guys?

Ok now for my video issue. I have a AMD 2500+ factory unlocked and set to 3200+ no heat issues. I have a Radeon X800 Pro. My graphic settings are 1024x768, 2xAA, Trillinear AF (because i set it and never changed, i hate the wait in-game), High Models, High Shadows, High everything really... except for AF... I get like 100fps and then if i enter a room with a lot of action about to happen, the game sticks for a sec, its not even a surprise when something is going to jump out because the game hangs to load it or something? Any help guys?

I think the first one is a mortor synth and the other is a Stalker.

The first shot shows two "Synths" - Synths are wildlife (though Alien wildlife) fused with technology by the Combine. The Striders, Gunships and Dropships fall under the category of "Synth". These two were concepts for armoured synths the player was supposed to fight. They were modelled and perhaps even completed, but were never worked into the game's levels. They may simply have not been very fun to fight. They appear in the Citadel as examples of the extent of the Combine's war machine: an invading army with many different species fighting for it, many of which we simply haven't seen yet.

The second shot shows a "Stalker". The only reference in the game to them is a bit of hard to find resistance fighter dialogue "They'll never turn me into a stalker". Basically, they're humans who've been operated on to be made into low maintanence slaves (the Raising the Bar making of books says they're run on a Saline solution). Like the synths, they were once enemies you battled against, but they've also been kept in the Citadel (and one in Nova Prospekt) for effect.

It kind of seemed like the dead skiny people looking things (Synth or Stalker im not sure?) were almost like slaves to the Combine dudes...

UrineMachine,
I posted that same pictures and asked the same question maybe a week ago. It's amazing how often people ask the same question over and over, who knows how many times that question was asked before I did?

They should make a FAQ with all these things.

Most certainly. What is strange, is that "the combine" (the soldiers we fight in the game) are themselves human, or at least a forced evolution of humanity. The stalkers are also human, but pratically sub-human, a sort of forced reverse evolution. Both groups are specified as "Combine" and "Stalkers" by the resistance fighters - the normal humans - almost as if they're alien races, when really they're all one and the same.

Edit:

Yes, it's a difficult one. The problem seems to be that, in all fairness, the reason why people ask these questions is because they have nothing to go on. People could legitimately walk into this thread and say "use the search function", if UrineMachine had the kind of information to base a search on. If he now searches for "Mortar Synth" and "Stalker", he'll now get a bunch of results; but he didn't have those names to go by in the first place.

An FAQ would be a great idea... People still miss the damned things anyway though...

Supposedly, the combine you fight in the game are the Overwatch combine. The combine assigned to earth. They either evolved into a more human form during thier stay at earth or they forced themselves into a more human form. Not sure. Supposedly the combine have many different forms that are made for the planet they are staying on. Like the overwatch look like humans, and maybe on the strider planet they took over, they looked more like striders. The true combine form, the one the overwatch originated from, is slugglike with stubby arms. you can find one at the end of the game, when Breen is talking to the administrator/leader. It looks like this giant biomechanicle green slug.

Oh and I was browsing through the GCF files and looking at the administrator model, and found out that it actually had attack animations and moving animations. Not just the idle one you see breen talking to. Maybe we were supposed to fight it in early versions of the game but it got cut out. Like the mortar synths.

I disagree because in Breen's Nova Prospekt speech, he clearly addresses the soldiers as "the trans-human" forces, saying that they must "prove that they are truely the best humanity has to offer". They're not aliens, but "evolved" humans. (probably either by technology or gene therapy)

If they sent everybody a bok with these questions and posted them on billboards across the nation and on tv commercials, people would still come and ask "how do you get the blue grav gun?"
