Isn't Sierra part of HL2 anymore? Coz I only hear about Valve and Vivendi, is Sierra out of the picture?

Sierra was a division of Vivendi Games and it got closed down.

Closed division :P

They closed it down.. Anyone know why? I forget.

oh, damn. i couldn't see the post from gunzablazin. every second, there is a new post here on the forums. ;)

They still have it online, but sierra doesn't excist as a company anymore. They probably have it online because so many games still use the Sierra tag that were released pretty recently.

when sierra still existed at the time of half life, was it already a division of vivendi?

I dont think they have closed ( Sierra ), since they have their " logo/picture " on the recently PC game called " Evil Genius ".

Looks like a lot of people are confused :o

Basically Vivendi Universal Games cut 350 staff and shut down Sierra. The Sierra brand will live on in name only. Half-Life 2 will be published by Sierra but it's now just another Vivendi team doing it.

to my own question. probably not. because then, we would have seen a vivendi logo in half life.

ehm, well.. yeah, confused. true. :)

where is mr. obviously?!! come over here, we need you! .. ;)

I think what happened was sierra originally was a part of Vivendi, but after HL it broke of and became a separate company. ? is that right ?

iF.

vivendi was afraid after the great sucess of hl, that sierra will take all the credit, and was gready, and shut down sierra, so they can publish hl2 for themselves! lol

Kinda the reverse, I think. At the time of HL it was an independent company, but then Vivendi bought it, and now it's shut down. Or something.

As has been said, it's apparently just a brand now, not a company. Hence the continuing presence of the website.

They only exsist in name now. Since HL1 was published with the Sierra logo on it, I guess they decided it should also be on the HL2 box, along with their logo of course.

I'll sum up Sierra in a few short sentances:

Started out, made GREAT games.
Continued making some good games, but then focused on the HOYLE series...
Canned all the good games they were making, pissed off thousands of customers, made Professional Bull Riding. Over 2 thousand people decide to boycot all Sierra products.
Continued to piss off fans, made Professional Bull Rider 2
Made Homeworld 2...some people stopped boycotting to buy that
got the Ax from Vivendi for not making any money.

Hearing Sierra is gone still brings a smile to my face. :D
DIE SIERRA! MUAHAHA!!!

Sadly, that is pretty much the truth. Except you forgot to mention that they canceled an awesome looking Bablyon 5 game (back in the day) for Professional Bull Riding. That is no joke.

sierra died...

that means no more sucky tech support from them :(

saying that, nearly all tech support sucks!

edit: anyway, sierra published some other pretty cool games. such as starcraft, homeworld ect. aswell

Bah, whos uses tech support anyways? If you want something done, do it yourself
