Does anyone know the "style" in such films as Mouse Hunt, Batman (the movie), The Hudsucker Proxy etc. Where its like, modern day, but not quite modern day, like its still set in the 50's or something even though its not, and there's a slight sepia tone to everything, or very stark contrasting images, when color is used, and rarely, its always very bright. Everything has that old look to it, cars are often big and lots of chrome. Women are often in 50's style clothing, men in old style suits. lots of hats, you never seem to see anything like modern technology, even though you know in that time period shown in the film, it exists, and if you do see a computer its often something big and clunky with just a greenscreen.

Anyone have any idea's?

I googled the heck out of this and could not find exactly what you were looking for. The closest i could find at this time is "Dark Deco". I just cant find the right phrase to get a good "google".

Yeah thats the problem I'm having, not knowing what I'm supposed to be looking for :(

The style is great but I can't learn more about it until I know what its called heh its not fair :)

It's probably not called anything in particular, just the all encompasing ''fantasy''

well, movies like batman etc have all those "art deco" type structures, but thats not just it... theres something else.
Hmm maybe someone's done a school report or something that has all that info in it.
Check the cheat-sheets etc at www.sparknotes.com

Definately not gothic, or steampunk variations. I know those styles (my favorites too)

Though Batman probably wasn't a great example I used as that does have the whole gothic thing going on.. hmm damn its really hard to explain when you don't know the right words to use lol

hmm actually... weeeeee! I think bliink got it hahaha excellent. I'll have to look further into it but its definately a start, definately a mix of art deco and other stuff... Though im sure the style used has its own name, hopefully be able to find out now :)

Thanks everybodies! :D:D:D:D:D:D

haha actually scratch that, looks like Kage is closest with Neo-noir

or rather Neo-noir mixed with art deco and with a tiny bit of gothic

hehe.

I'm not sure if neo-noir exists, but that's pretty much what it sounds like to me; neo-noir and a dark gothic deco style.

Really. I heard it a lot during the promo phase of Sky Commander.
