Hey, I'm new here. I've enjoyed HL2, and also CS:S, though I'm rubbish at it.

And therein lies the story. I'm crap. I'm crap at CS:S, I'm crap at NS (though I hope they finish the port to Source!) and I'm crap at CTF:S that I just downloaded.

I'm sure I could get better, but I don't have the time to devote to it. Of an evening, sometimes midweek, but usually on a Friday or Saturday night I get to play online for an hour or two. That's it.

I'd love to have an enjoyable game of whatever, but I'm a part timer, so how can I be good? Instead I get shot to bits by everybody, which is OK... damn, some of these guys are just soooo good it makes me wonder how their brains work. But, I'm not a a challenge for these guys, I'm just a joke. Occasionally I get reminded of that, by chat telling me I'm crap or gay or pwned or whatever. That's OK too.

I guess what I'm saying is that I love the idea of noob only servers, but they get invaded by little dicks who're good players but like to win too much, and also by noob cheats. I don't like that.

I'd love to see a system where players in online mods get some kind of kudos based on how many kills AND the quality of player they've killed. I'd then be able to choose servers that match my ability.

This has two advantages: 1) I'd get to feel like I was playing, rather than being a patsy, and 2) I wouldn't be occupying a slot on a server where the guys know what they're doing and hate me for being crap. Oh, and 3) I get to shoot someone now and then, too.

You pro's have probably heard all this before, but I'd love to know how many people out there would prefer to be ranked against other players of similar ability. I bet the pro's would love to get the noobs off of their games just as much as the noobs would like to get the pro's out of theirs?

Opinions?

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

I started getting addicted to CSS at the start of the public beta, and I never expected to get so hooked. It takes practice (which you will find yourself more and more willing to find time for). It takes knowing some basic skills, and more importantly, the layout of the map you're playing. There are servers with ranking, but you can't really care all that much.. just have fun!

Edit: Forgot to mention, VAC2 should be coming "soonish", so that might foil the cheaters for a time...

Don't wory about cheaters, they are very rare in CSS and as for u being newbish....play with bots to practise? also crouch jump is ur friend...so is kevlar w/ helmet....and for gods sakes dont use an auto sniper.

Every1 says every1 is a haxor! when they start winning. Who is and who is not is very hard to tell. A few years ago it was a joke though, I remember when Team Fortress came out - hAx everywhere! A lot less of this goes on now.

As for being good or bad, being really good is a sign of a misspent youth.

I'm sorry to hear your story,I usually kick everyone's ass in CS Servers but I never abuse someone for being bad at a video game.
Try doing a search on some CS:S tips, you just need to pratice, when I started playing CS,I can't even shoot down someone that is 3feet anf not shooting at me,you just need to pratice, thats all.

I'm not too fabulous at CS either.
My tips, note that all of these are just common sense:

1) Make sure you don't get in anyone's way. Its so damn irritating when the whole bloody team cramps up a doorway then some guy runs out and slaughters the bunch of them because nobody could move. Not necessarily newbies that do this either...

2) Control your fire. Probably the most important thing in CS. If you just hold down the trigger you won't hit much (unless your target is right in your face).

3) Concentrate on the objectives rather than scores. I think this is the worst thing about those '1337' people. So many times the team could've won if some idiot didn't decide to camp at the spawn when he had the bomb. You don't need skills to plant the bomb (just your imagination to find a good place to put it) or rescue hostages. Otherwise just stick with a skilled team-mate and try to support him.

Welcome! (30)

i'm still not TOO good at css... but i found the best way to get your skill up is to go onto a normal server, and just try your best... at least, that's what i do.. and i don't get complaints
