Just picked up FEAR, and I have to say...

How can you guys NOT love this game?

I mean, it's so humorous. The fishing magazines scattered all over the place, with a stereotypical handlebar mustachioed french man standing with one eyebrow up on the cover.

The dreaded TPS report lying amidst the carnage.

The signs reading:

REMEMBER
it's Quantity
Quality
Safety

In that order

I mean, c'mon, this game has such a soft and funny side to it.

I loved how all the laptops were Alienwares.

Cracked up when I saw the Microsoft optical mouse sitting ontop of what looked like a Dell mousepad, then I shot the mouse off, only to find that the mousepad read...

Voss

OOH, Quake 4 fans!

Then there's the magazines with Fabio on the cover.

The fat guy eating "Cheesey POOz", who then moons you on camera...

The calendar that has a pink monkey wrench on it, that reads...

"You can open up to me"

The "how to properly lift" signs scattered all over the place

The papers that read "Planning to plan"

The post it note that reads "American Cowboy!"

The post it note that says "Leo loves Kai!!!"

------------------------------------

I mean, the list goes on and on.

This game is just so light and humorous that I had more than a few Laughing in my chair moments amidst the carnage.

I mean, how can a sign that says "Please, keep this room clean" among a room full of dead bodies ripped limb from limb, and blast damage NOT make you chuckle?

THAT, my friends, is pure gold.

Uh... let me paraphrase something I read in a review.

OK, so you're walking into a darkened room. The lights suddenly flicker. Silence. Something rustles, and blood starts dripping down the walls. The place is debris in sticky, disgusting blood. It's draped all over the walls, it's pooling underneath a sign. What does that sign say? "Thank you for keeping this room clean". Mood. Killed.

I think almost every game created since office space that includes a level in an office has TPS reports somewhere

To be fair nearly all of F.E.A.R.'s levels were set in some form of office...oh, and a warehouse. Not that I didn't love the game which I did. The ending more than made up what few shortfalls F.E.A.R. had in level design.

And you don't find yourself at least curious as to why the high points of the game are it's little secret jokes? So you chuckle. That's not even what the game is for, it's suppost to scare you shitless.

Because it's overrated, bland in level design, depressingly linear in terms of gameplay and goes wildly over the top in its attempts to amuse you. Oh yeah, great...keep the room clean...funny...

Its playground humour, and FEAR is full of it. I find FEAR hugely overrated, and the reason for this? The lack of anything decent in 2005. I actually find it more hilarious that the only thing you have found positive about the game, is the little, pointless touches that have no bearing on the gameplay.

Decent graphics and a sense of humour does not a game make.

Well tbh, who gives a toss.. its all good, and its okay to enjoy the little things on the side but i wasnt really focusing on that stuff when I played, which kept the ambience unbroken.

Because the game was really all about the humour.

Monkey Island is a comedy game. :p

Oh I do so love contraversial differing opinions on games. Like Halo. I'm going to have to play FEAR at some point - but PC Gamer gave it a good mark, and I don't believe I've ever disagreed particularly with a PC Gamer review (oddly enough).

This is GOTY and one of the best of all time. It would have gotten this many awards for no reason. You are all just haters :/

FEAR > All you (but the FEAR lovers)

No, just people with different opinions? Seriously, I believe its far from game of the year and certainly has no rights as one of the best games of all time. What is so special about it? Nothing!

I agree totally. Anytime you say something about that game, you have my support.

I don't like it cause I find it too scary D: I hate to be scared.

Heh, <3 lechuck

Get FEAR, it's a polished, fun, scary shooter. It doesn't push anything particularly original, but it's a blast to play. Apart from that ****ing engineer. And the music that comes on when he's around

It didn't scare me all that much, but the combat makes me piss myself with glee. I must concede, though, that the levels are indeed horrendous.
