Will it stop at 3 by valve

Hiya,

Will valve stop making at episode 3 or do you think they will make more episodes
 
well we did hear rumours about the fourth but has it been confirmed at all?
 
Yes it has, its been confirmed in PC GAMER MAG by Gabe and in interviews.
 
Both the other developer/third-person scenarios would suck major balls.
 
Agreed. It just needs that Valve touch.

If it ends up like the Gearbox expansions, then that's good news.

Although it could be a lot worse. :(

I probably wouldn't even play it. I would consider it more of a mod than an official HL release.
 
Ep3 should end this story arch. Wonder what ep4 would be.
I thought they were going to wait and see the feedback from these episodes and then determine what they were going to do?

That's what I hope they would do. They might find a way to have Episode 3 satisfactorily end the series completely. If not, maybe another episode or two developed by Valve would be in order.

Part of me wishes that they end it sooner than later, especially if other developers are going to be taking over making the new games. But time will tell.
 
Ep.4 is going to be made by another developer, but UNDER VALVE'S SUPERVISION.

It shouldn't be that bad then.
 
i think valve have been working on source/hl2/episodes that theyve forgotten how to make a proper sequal.

i want hl3. and i want it to be as big a step as hl2 was to hl.
 
Why do they need another developer at all? Are they getting that lazy?

That's because Ep4 won't finish the storyline after Ep3, it will maybe fill in some gaps in the story, or tell the same story from a different angle (like opp force).
 
Imo, they shouldn't just simply call it Episode 4 if Gordon isn't the playable character ala OpFor. Shall it continue Gordon's story, this outside developer even in "Valve's supervision" smells a bit. :hmph:
 
Yea some Adrian Shephard stuff would be nice, or playing Barney after he left C17 with train. Because there has been nothing about Barnz in Ep2 previews.
 
He doesn't have a role. I'd rather see him in the Lost week than after the train...I mean, poor guy has been fighting for a week. I think the train thing was his 'finish', for now.
 
I'm sure Lombardi said on the E3 interview that Ep3 would be a climactic finale, implying that there would be no more episodes. Like Samon said though, I always though there would be a HL3 after the episodes.
I'd be seriously worried about some outside developer making Half-Life games. No-one except Valve should be making HL. Spin-offs like OP4, fine, but canonical HL should be from Valve and Valve alone. If such a spin-off is made, it shouldn't be called ep4, because that would obviously confuse it with the other episodes.
Asuka, could you post a link to any of these ep4 interviews or articles?

I agree with that. He must be pretty fatigued. He sure looks worn out in Episode One.
 
Yea Barney can take rest now. He probably changes the Metrocop outfit since there's only soldiers for now, and the suit must be quite broken. But I wonder where did the rebel train go? If Alyx and Gordon crashed, where was the place where they were headed? They don't have any connection with Eli and Kleiner.
 
but if eoisdoe 3 ends i think that Valve would start Half life 3 rite??

of course, they mite have other plans.

Let's not forget he might be the one who dies in Ep2.

And yeah, a Lost Week expansion where you get to play as Barney would be a cool idea. Might be something to keep us occupied if/when we wait for HL3,
a la OP4 and Blue Shift.
 
I'm pretty sure that Barney plays little or no part at all in Episode Two.
 
HL2 episodes is said to be a trilogy... isn't it time for HL3 after that?
 
Well I always thought these episodes were to test the concept. If, after the trilogy, it was a great success, then instead of spending years and years another bulk of a game, they would make the next story arc in a group of episodes.

Keep up with latest technology, continuously correct on previous flaws and give the fans bits of the story in monthly periods (Ha...) rather than waiting a very long time for a full game.

I thought that was the entire idea for the production of these three episodes, as well as finishing the current story arc.

Current story arc? Do you mean that afterwards the story will change as dramatically as the transition between HL1 and HL2? I remember Dough boy saying in the E3 convention recently that Ep3 would be a "climactic finale". I think he meant to this trilogy of episodes, so that supports what you said.

Why not? We went across the universe in Half-Life 1, who says we can't do it again?
 
I suppose if episode 4 will be made by another developer that Gordon will not be the character you play. If episode 3 is a climactic finale then it means a severe and final blow will be laid against combine forces (on earth). Perhaps episode 4 will concentrate on a minor character after the battle, mopping up the last remnants of the combine. Episode 4 would be filler for the fans while Valve concocts a new engine or something impressive for Half Life 3.
