I have a S3 Grahics UniChrome Pro IGP grapfics casrd thing. Will hl2 work on this?

highly unlikely, i'd say go out and buy a real graphics card.

I dont have the money :(!!!! So I should I just forget about this game?

Well, ther chance of it working is preety damn unlikely. I'd just save up for a good 9800 pro or somthing. First check the compatability of your motherboard though.

a 9800 pro is only about $150 canadian. remember to shop arund for a good deal though.

Well, basicly i could help you if you know what kind of motherboard you have.

If you have no idea and you feel comfertable opening your case it should say the type of motherboard somwhere on it (the big thing in the back that connects everything)

If you look around it should have typed on it what type of motherboard it is, mine for eaxmple has it between two of the PCI-slots, the big horisontal plastic things (commonly white)

I would advise you that if you baught your computer with a warnaty opening it may void this. Also dont touch any of the stuff inside.

Oh, and if you happen to do this, while it's open check if theres a bigger (brown mabye) slot above all the white ones.

And i know i did noobify this if your already good with computers, but i just wanna be right the first time rather than having to repost agin

Can you name a few motherboard names. I probably know it but forgot.

Well, popular brand names are

ASUS
Abit
Aopen
Asrock
Biostar
Chaintech
Gigabyte
MSI

I just copied this off a website selling them.

Do you have an AMD or Intel processor?

I wonder how you got stuck with that graphics card...Such a an awesome processor.

Couldnt find the moterboard? dont worry.

Basicly that simplifies things cause virtualy all athlon 64 processor motherboards have an agp slot and compatability.

Theres one last thing to check for compatability, this requires restarting your computer and just keep hitting delete, or f1 (depends on the motherboard, there could be others) when the computer is turning on

You should get to a blie screen with all your computers settings, look for a thing that says "Disable onboard video" or somtyhing to that nature.

When and if you find this, dont change it, just press escape and quit without saving, you computer should restart agin.

If this was here your computer is defintly compatible, if not it may or may not be, but in all likelihood it's automatic and it is. Well it better be if it has an AGP slot.

I just got this computer... like 1 week. So theres nuthing I can do b ut buyy it huh>?

Hmm, well maye if it;s that new you can still return it and ask for an upgrade to a nice graphics card, it might cost less if you get it bundled with the computer.

As it is that GPU is far too slow, your processor will never get to it's full potential with that in line.

My processor sucks?

And I tried restarting it and hiot delete. The blue screen came up but theres a list of options which is it under?

No your processor is completley awesome. It's just that having such a slow graphics device is going to cause a bottleneck becasue your processor has to go slower so the graphics have a chance to catch up.

Ok, there is a list of categories at the top, it'l probably be under somthing akin to 'advanced settings'

Don't worry about the BIOS option, you should be able to disable the onboard video through Windows XP, no? Thats how I did it with my old computer. But like the other guy said, don't change anything.

Ah realy? well that's awesome then. I never actualy did that, me never having upgraded a graphics card.

i have a intergrated s3 unichrome also... one word.. "CRAP" so i went and got my self a 9800 pro :bounce:

Yup, get at least a 9800 Pro, or even better a 6600 GT - v cheap nowadays :)

(Remind me why not to post drunk)

ok answer me this...... a grapgics card that is good for games like half life 2. but as i said before i just got this comp and im out of money.... soo i want a gfx card thats real cheap not like 150$

Well the cheaper recomendation from me is a 9600, it's not vastly cheaper though, so dont expect a major price change.

Personaly i'd rather wait for a good card than have a decent card right away.

That is one sweet CPU and you need a Sweet video card to really use it. I have a amd64 3200+ and i have a standered nvidia 6800 and i love it. I say get a Nvidia 6800 or Nvidia 6600 or ATI X800 or ATI X600 and the reason i say these because they are the video cards that can really use that much power in the CPU department. Now maybe a 9800 XT but the 6600 and the X600 are only a little more. A good website for buying this kind of stuff is Newegg i would look there first. I hope this helps you. Good luck finding a video card for your system.

BTW: If you have a 64bit Cpu i would say that it might be smart to download the beta windows 64x. It is free and you can use the real power of a 64bit CPU.

k il keep searching. but can you tell me if this computer deal is good?

I have a
-AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+
-16x Double Layer Multi-Format DVD+/-RW and 48x CD Drives
-512 MB DDR Memory
-200 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive with 2 MN Cache
-Intergrated 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
-2 FireWall, 7 USB Ports
-6-channel audio
-8 in 1 Memory Card Reader
- copy/print/scan machine
- with a monitor
all this for $850.00

Please tell me if this is a good deal I have.

Are you joking. The 9800pro is at least 280 here in Canada.

Some people got Doom 3 running on a pair of Voodoo 2s in SLI mode, so it might be possible with the S3... ;)

$150 is very very very very very very cheap for a graphics card. Mine was $510

I know this is kinda off topic, but where do you get a 9800 pro for $150 canadian???

Download a program called Everest. That tells you everything you need to know about your computer if you're an idiot like me. Getting a 9800 pro is a great investment. I had a gforce FX 5600 (crap), melted, so i'm back to this 64mb mobo gfx. Getting a 9800 pro very soon.

I found a nVIDIA GeForce 6600 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/HDTV-Out, PCI-Express for $145 here in the US. Is that any good? Will I be able to run DX9 with it? Thats the cheapest I could find.

6600 would be second best. 145 is really cheap. Buy two.

I'm sure you know this already, but I just want to make sure. Thats a PCI-e card, you need to make sure you have a PCI-e slot. If you dont, there is always the 6600gt AGP version, it costs more though.

But like I said, you should know this by now. And yes you will be able to run DX9 with it, I have the AGP version and its amazing.

You guys are card crazy

I have a cheap ass GeForce4 MX440 64MB graphics card and HL2 runs perfectly fine on fairly high settings. I don't know what you guys are talking about, but the system requirments for HL2 are probably the lowest of any recent game. The card is only about $50 (http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Pine_XFX_GeForce4_MX440_8x_AGP_64_MB_Graphics_Card_778656038288) and there has never been the slightest hint of slowdown on HL2. In fact the only game where I have had to turn down settings is Doom3, which is very demanding graphically. If you have a $500 card I hope you do high-end programming/graphic design.

Hey Mr. GhostFox, I had that card too, and it did run HL2 really good. I never had a single hitch. But now that I have my 6600gt and I realize that things look a lot better and it performs just as good if not better than the GeForce4. I didn't get the new card just to play HL2 in all its prettyness, but so that I'll be able to play other games like Doom 3 (ran like 14 fps with the GeForce 4 MX 440). So yeah... I also think that spending 400+ for a graphics card is kinda strange, but oh well, if people have the money then by all means go for it. Me, I'm fine with my $230 6600gt.

I'm not against people having good graphics cards. I wish I had a better one. I understand that better cards will improve the graphics. I just couldn't get over how silly this thread was when people started talking about their $500 cards to play a game that functions perfectly on a $50 card at above average settings. I don't know if you could buy a graphics card so poor that you couldn't run HL2. It was designed to be able to run on low end systems.
