I've been wondering, would Gordon be as popular with the citizens etc if he didnt have help from the Barneys in HL1 and the rebels in HL2, because they do help him get through areas etc, so maybe Gordon wouldnt be alive without his Barney and Rebel friends helping him along, what do you think?

(Also, I think the scientists helped alot in HL1, afterall, they did help prepare teleporters etc.)

... Well that's a wee bit unfair to say. It wasn't Gordon's fault he had limited clearance... That's like me asking if Gordon would have been as popular without all of his weapons... There'd be no way to progress... So no. :D

It is Gordons fault. He should have pulled strings :D

And the answer is no. He owes his life to the security guards.

What about the scientists and security guards who opened dorrs, and portals for him, without them, Gordon wouldn't have known to go to xen and kill nihilanth.

And what if there wasn't any crowbar near that glass door in black mesa?

He would have been stuck in that laser hallway forever! Oh noes!

Poor guy. He didn't have his fists capable of breaking glass.

What if the door on the tram had NEVER OPENED :O

He would have been pretty bored, and the cascade would have never happened...

Think what would have happened...

If you think about it, Gordon wouldn't have progressed much beyond Ravenholm if Alyx hadn't offered to show him the Gravity Gun.

I still can't get over the fact that Alyx melee'd about six metropolices at the beginning of HL2, yet her true npc form can easily get killed by two or three antlions.

Antlions are humans now? They've got, like, claws and shit man. And they can fly.

And she like, shot a few.

There's no blood anywhere when you look around after she saves your ass. Only 6 metropolice ragdolls. I dont recall hearing gun shots either.

My point being that if there was an actual NPC versus NPC battle during the appartment raid instead of a white fade, Alyx would have died.

I think that NPC characters are usually underrated, and though sometimes they can be a bit annoying, I think they make you feel like you are part of something bigger than you, that you are part of a real Uprising.
I know you play by yourself for most of the game, but it's not like for example Halo, where you are this pseudo-Rambo guy killing stupid hords of alliens just with a pistol... (I'm not being a fanboy here, I liked Halo but this just didn't seem right to me)

Action Movie/Video Game logic

No, no you didnt hear gunshots...

Nah, Alyx uses a secret punch gun weapon to take them out.

Kay. Fair enough.

How many can the Episode 1 model take on?

I imagine that she was at least able to bushwhack two or three of them to start. The rest probably came at her one at a time making sure that Gordon didn't join in. She's just a girl after all.
