Would the Source Code have the Game Engine in it?

Or is it strickly Half Life 2 code? I recall that Valve was looking to patent their new HL2/DX9 engine to other developers (like Activision for Vampire: The Masquerade.)

Was wondering if the leaked source code would have that information in it and if other developers could rip some ideas off of it to make their own engines and save some money?

So does that mean Valve's plans to sell the engine are screwed now? Since the engine core has been stolen and publicly distributed, does this mean other developers are scrambling to get it right now? To steal some of the code ideas?

This could be terrible for Valve's future, no? Sure Half Life 2 will sell huge, but if their budget included sales of the HL2 engine, wouldn't this theft be disasterous?

Official companies can not do that take bits of the engine and put it in their games unless valve sold the egine to them. but normal poeple who can modify the engine can create a big problem in the upcoming HL2 game which suppose to be released next month. for the cheating reason I think, that valve need to delay the game till q1 next year so they can time chaging the source codes which have been leack.

I kinda doubt they'll change around the whole source, because I'm sure most of it is very finely tuned and working just right. The only thing that I can think they might change is some of the network stuff, but even then, they don't even know how people will exploit it. It's not like they know what exploits exist in their code and they left them in, hoping that cheaters wouldn't find them :|

Maybe I'm just being optimistic again (maybe I shouldn't be anymore--look what happened last time), but I doubt they'll change much, if at all. I'd say that if there is a delay, it'll be becuase they're trying to track the people down, and I'm not even really sure why that should cause a delay.
