No kidding, but I must say I didn't expect this at all. The first couple of levels were really nothing special, but then twisting it all with that sarcastic voice and the escape plot...wow, excellent job valve! I can't wait for a sequel!

I was totally not a Portal fan until I played the ending (level 19+), but now...even the credits part was awesome!

Cheers Valve, you've resurrected my faith in you :-)

Amen!

Unlike you, I did expect it to be awesome, but it still blew me away!

Great game, and I look forward to great custom maps and more Portal style games released by Valve.

Everybody that says it's too easy, give the advanced chambers a shot if you haven't already. I'm finding them quite hard myself.

Portal really did renew my faith in Valve as well...

I love how it ties in with the rest of the HL2 world so smoothly

Same thing...I just expected a straightforward puzzle game with a funny narrator and some vague storyline. All the creepy "backstage" areas, the entire escape section, the final boss, and the ending all hit me by complete surprise.

I beat the main game in 1:30. Finished 100% achievements a couple days ago. That's why I'm saying that it wasn't all that difficult.

It took me about 2:30 hours to finish.
And yeah, I was expecting it to be awesome and tie into the story somehow, but the end when you go into the inner facility just.. totally blew me away. It was just the greatest experience ever. It was then I realized that no one was there.
D:
/is GLaD stayed away from spoilers

Meh; I did the advanced versions in some forms, but you have to understand that there comes a time when its just not INTERESTING to me to do the same levels over and over, down to the incredible detail of counting steps, etc.

I see it like this; I beat everything the game threw at me; then I beat it blindfolded; then I beat it blindfold and one hand tied behind my back. When its suggested I try it blindfolded, one hand tied behind my back, and hopping on one foot. . . then I know its time I found something else to do instead, because its obvious I've gotten all the satisfaction out of the game that I can so far. :-) (corollary: I dont care about some silly obscure "achievement").

Dont get me wrong; I love the game and all and am begging for more. . . but its VARIETY I want now, not a rehash of something I've already done 2-3 ways already. So I'm looking into making my own maps. . . .

I have 100% in the ones that make you think, and aren't just about reflexes and FPS-skill. (IE, I have gold for Least Portals, and the Advanced maps are done)

I beat the game somewhere between 1:30 and 2:00. I said to one of my friends "Well, I beat it in two hours, but maybe I'm just damned good at puzzle games." :)

I still think that may be true, based on seeing everyone else's posts here, getting confused on how to beat levels like 13, 14, 15...

Apparently there are a number of people who didn't know there was game after the descent into the flames, and were complaining that it was too short.

Admit it!

I am quite surprised at all the people that only needed 1:30 hours to finish it. In stead of running through I took a really leisurely pace to enjoy every tiny bit of it. Experimenting with the portals, reading every tidbit you find in the hide-outs, going over a level again if I wanted to try out other possibilities. This game is too good to speedrun through the first time. That's what the challenges are for imho.

My community page says 10.6 hours so far for Portal :)

Lack of official tools makes me sad. With them non portable walls would be a lot easier to make.

We'll get the SDK update soon enough...

Just played it again - even though i know the puzzles its still fun to hear GLaDOS' voice.

I thought Portal would be 19 levels of puzzles, and I really didn't want to get it with the Orange Box.

Never mind.

Valve did a good job keeping an actual plot secret for the most part. I hope they will take the cue for Episode 3 and not show vidoes of all the coolest parts of the game before its release.

I was more or less challenging myself to get it done as quickly as I could the first time through. I have replayed it multiple times though, and I still love it.
