Hey,
Before HL2 or CS:S came out. I was really worried about my graphics card. I have a gig of RAM, and a 2.67 GHz Intel P4 processor, so I wasn't worried about that. My graphics card, however, was an ATi 9600 All-in-Wonder with 128 megs memory. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to run it at very high graphics, but I was pleasantly surprised.
When I launched Half-Life 2 on the 16th, the graphics were all on high, with water on "Reflect World" and no AA or AF. The last three bothered me. After playing for a little while, I decided to test with water on "Reflect All." It still ran fine, even when there was a lot of action going on in the water areas. Soon, I took another risk, and set AA and AF on the lowest settings with them still on. Still, the game ran fine.
On Thursday, I took yet another risk, and turned AA and AF halfway. I was surprised that the game still ran without any slowdowns.
Finally, today, I decided that with my current luck, I'd try again. So, I set AA and AF to the MAX! I couldn't believe it. I didn't notice any freezing or pauses at all!
And to think that the Sunday before HL2 came out, I was contemplating shelling out $500+ on a new 9800 or x800!
I've never enjoyed Half-Life 2 so much!
Just wanted to share my happiness with the community!

One last question before I go....What's "Wait for vertical...whatever" do? It's set on "off" right now, and I'm thinking about trying to set it on. Is it worth it, or what?

vertical sync just makes the card refresh at the same rate as your monitor.....i would leave it off
