Ok for the past 6 years ive had an elonex autoscan 17" crt

it could manage 1280 1024 res at a wopping 60 Hz

i recently reinstalled xp and bought a new gfx card 9600XT

And now my monitor manages 100 Hz wtf ?

this has to be wrong but with v-sync on in cs i set the hertz to 85 stuck fps_modem to 100 and it did 85 hertz So it is actauly doing it or is my monitor about to explode?

perhaps your previous video card prevented those hertz rates from being used in order to preserve your monitor's life span... but whatever the case that's pretty cool :)

Your monitor unlocks higher hertz when you have a better graphics card.

it is possible to 'overclock' your monitor, and its not healthy. whatever specs your monitor claims it can do in terms of hz, thats what i can do regardless of the video card. 1280x1024@100hz on a 17" is unheard of, and if it is running at that frequency, it won't be for long most likely.

When setting the refresh rate, make sure you've got the "hide modes that might damage monitor" box ticked.

If it is, then you're fine.
