there is an unnofficial patch over at PlanetVampire that fixes this problem, and other problems as well.

the game is awesome, but the graphics aren't as optimized as HL2, so if you don't have a really nice rig you'll likely encounter some graphical problems. Also, there are several bugs and graphical glitches that need fixing...though rumors are that a patch is on the way.

however if you consider other people, like myself, who cannot seem to use the desktop shortcut (and thusly cannot access the console)...this bug is absolutely game stopping.

the last one is:

you can get there using any of the sewer grates throughout Santa Monica...all you have to do is look at one of the many sewer maps located underground to find out exactly how to get to the Hotel.

In the room with the spider-lady-thing there is a small grate to the left (facing where the thing came from), you have to jump over the gap onto the ledge and use the E key to smash it open.

I can't seem to launch the game from the Desktop icon...it only works when I use the CD autorun. Normally that would be fine, however I need to access the console so I can get past that stupid Society of Leopold crash bug. Help?

that would probably work better as a log-in thing. anyone here know how to do that?

Well it wouldn't be that hard of an addition...because as it has been demonstrated and mentioned before they've attatched cameras to other things before, and we've all seen what kind of outputs you can have. though it may be tricky including those outputs into a commander mode style...

The camera inputs would be awesome for a Commander-Mode type system like that which is in Natural Selection. You can either use the top-down view, or use placed/hacked security cameras as well as shoulder-mounted cameras on all of your troops.

I got my preorder in my local EB on September 26th I think. The reciept still is sitting safely in my wallet.

yeah, Overlords isn't doing that great either...team member wise anyways. It is amazing how much of a catch 22 it is, trying to get team members. People will only be interested if you have something to show for your mod (models + concept art are the biggies) but if you can't do those things...
