I have heard of a server cluster, but I thought he was talking about multiple game clients, like let's say you and I were playing together. I thought he meant that the two of us could share the wordload, which I don't think would be able to happen because of the lag between us.
Guess I...
Consider the delay of your own processor doing a calculation versus the delay of your computer telling another to do something, doing it, then sending the results to your computer. I think that's a pretty far-fetched idea unless you have one hell of a fast connection between computers.
Ever think the demo is full of bugs because they're missing so much stuff and because the errors are caused by things that are not considered to be the core of the game engine? I'm sure that by now the engine is done, or close to it.
You be sure to keep us updated on how this affects Valve, okay?
You have what, 25 signatures as of now? Just think, in only a matter of weeks you could break 100, maybe even 120!
I'm not defending Valve with their lack of updates, but a) there were clues that it wouldn't be released on time, such as multiple interviews where, when asked about the release date, they replied, "No comment." and b) if you're going to spend a few hundred dollars to upgrade something for a...
They could also just be waiting to make the statement until they figure out which parts of the code they want to re-write and try and estimate how long it will take.
Many people upgraded for Halo, and while HL2 isn't getting switched to XBox, it's still the same overall idea. They upgraded before they found out exactly what was going on.
And I'm almost positive someone posted an e-mailed reply from Gabe saying they would definately release a Gold...
While in the real game the AI probably won't be scripted to do specific things (ie, kick the door in), you can hardly blame them for scripting it in the demo. Of course they'll script things they show off. They're trying to show the most advanced things their AI will do, and so in order to...
Where did I ever say I wasn't enthusiastic about the game? I would have loved it to come out on the 30th. I'd like it to come out ASAP.
I'm just stating a fact, though. Many people learned not to upgrade for a specific game with Halo PC before it got switched to XBox. It's something...
They know everyone wants a statement from them, it's impossible for them NOT to know. And of course if they came to an HL2 forum they should expect that everyone here is raving for information regarding the game.
