I know Gabe has posted here before, so hopefully he'll read this and reply.

I really do feel sorry for you guys - 5 years work compromised in one week, truly awful.

I am not going to get into circumstances of what has happened, but instead want you to think about one point.

The community has been frantic since news broke of the stolen code. Speculation is rife. Your company has done nothing to inform the community what is going on, and to be honest it's really hard to accept this lack of information.

I know you guys must be ran ragged at the moment, and more likely than not have a million and one things on your collective minds, but is there anyway you could take a moment out, and inform the community what the truth of the situation is?

I accept that as a company, and as individuals, you owe the community nothing. I accept HL 2 does not 'belong' to us. But we have stuck with Valve for years, and feel at the very least you could extend us the common courtsey of letting us know *exactly* what is happening with the game.

There is far too much speculation, rumour and misinformation. The silence from Valve is just making things worse.

Please let us know what's going on.

I am sure I speak for the mature community when I extend you our support and best wishes at this difficult time.

Gabe and Valve seem to have completely shut themself off from the community, and given many people's posts on this forum I can understand why.

Valve is being quiet cause they don't want to admit the have a poor security scheme.

Wrong. I emailed valve and gabe responded. I asked him what their Prioritys were. Either catching the culprits or stopping the leak. He said they wanted to catch the guys who did it.
They are just very very busy. Its hardly supprising is it?

They don't exactly have to admit that, do they? It's been proven.

I accept they are busy, but if Gabe has the time to respond to one e-mail from a gamer, then surely he could better put that time into a release letting us all know what's going on?

Perhaps he wouldn't have to answer so many e-mails from gamers then, so he could better manage the recovery process.

Just a thought.

2 days ago I heard Valve was preparing a statement for the next day. That was 2 days ago. They blew the release date on a ****ing statement. lol. Just type up a damn paragraph to let us know. Thats all we want.

They obviously dont have anything to say right now. They are probably clarifying what they want to release in the statement as we speak

I suggest we all just sit tight. :)

yea, he could more efficiently distribute information to the masses and relief some stress from his inbox... all he has to do is say:

we are doing this now:
we are going to do this next:
expect the game around this date:
and thanks for the help from the community.

or something of that flavor

Exactly - I am sure that would satisfy most of us ;)

for ****s sake. I didnt lie. I can copy the thing into here if you want
and into the email valve thread
Its not exactly what I said. I asked them if copying false versions of the source would help them and they replied with their looking for the hackers right now

Right now our focus is more on tracking down the people who did it. Any help in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: can we help

Hi, I know you really really are very busy. But I think we might be able to help. Would it help you stop the source spreading if we made fake versions of it and put it all over the internet on file shareing programs. That way nobody should find it anywhere near as easily. Or would this simply slow down you tracking down the leaks. Is there anything in particular we could fake or simply do to help. Hope we can help.

Mark

Yoo dont need to prove yourself, gilgamesh has been talking out is ass with nothing to back up his crap.

yeah, its not exactly proof. But what do I care. Its you. You do not affect my life. (God how I pity those who you do come into contact with)
Just piss off!

"Yoo dont need to prove yourself, gilgamesh has been talking out is ass with nothing to back up his crap."

Same could easily be said about you.

Mod can you close this thread.
I really cant be arsed

maybe they dont know what they are going to do next? maybe they dont know when it's going to be released? hell, maybe they don't even know what they are doing now? how about you give them some time? any official statments they give out now would most likley be along the lines of "we currently can't give out any information".

they could try that, but it would most likley come out like;

i'm not saying you are wrong..

but if your reasoning holds and they dont know what they are going to do next etc... then it's a fact that the game will be delayed till 2004..

However, i disagree with you. Like i said though, the probability that either of us is right is close to nil

Very nice post, I too would like to know. But I think they are holding their heads down in shame right now since millions of people already have a playable version of the game thus far.

They could also just be waiting to make the statement until they figure out which parts of the code they want to re-write and try and estimate how long it will take.

I have to agree. Given the reaction to the many events over the last few months since the game was announced, I wouldn't say much of anything either if I were part of Valve. They can't win.

No matter what they say at this point, half of the "fans" will be rabid believers no matter what is said, and the other half will be rabid non-believers and rip Gabe/Valve for "lying."

They are better off just keeping their mouths shut, correcting security issues internally, finishing what's left of the game, and then announcing it's gold WHENEVER that might be (all while at the same time hunting the scum who stole the code/build).
