2 Questions for Half Life 2

Black Mesa Attack - I realize Alyx says the Combine are doing a sweep of the area but after Judith was discovered to be a spy, they never went any further on the subject. Was Mossman responsible for the Combine coming to Black Mesa? Or was it just a routine "sweep" as Alyx put it?

Civil Protection - In the beginning of the game, what are they doing? They were searching people, attacking, breaking into their homes, interrogating etc. One woman even says that she would join Civil Protection just to get a decent meal. So is that what they were trying to do; Bully them into joining Civil Protection? What exactly was the CPs motive? One guy says paraphrasing "first the building, then the entire block" in reference to Civil Protection taking over things. Why? When the citizens would go out into the plaza and past the security field (that we couldn't), where would they go? They don't really go into detail. I've always been confused about this.

The Combine knew about the base for ages because of Mossman, its just that Breen got tired of waiting and decided to go ahead and attack Black Mesa East and capture Eli

As The_Freeman says above, Breen / Mossman's conversation in Nova Prospekt clears this up. Mossman was supposed to signal the attack in order to capture Gordon, but Breen sent the combine in prematurely. Hi Nova Prospekt speech (and the fact that Mossman had been working with him for some time) indicate that Eli / Black Mesa had been known about for a while.

Civil Protection

They're just your friendly local ruffian police force (and nothing especially original at that). Just generally, they keep the population in check by reminding them who is in charge. Why do they get especially violent towards their fellow citizens? Some probably get overzealous because they're trying to gain more favour in the combine military, some are probably just dicks granted some dangerous anonymity.

When they're not just generally roughing people up, they are presumeably pest control for the City. Zombies and other wildlife all over the canals, and resistance fighters ("anticitizens") all to be rooted out. Judging from their tendency to stand next to piles of barrels, the lower status roles go to these guys

I think the force-field that everyone but people with glasses (i.e. you.) can pass through was more or less just a way to make boundary invisible walls look pretty.

Eating the same rations (Which probably wouldn't be enough to live comfortably to begin with) at the same time, seeing the same man on the same TV say the same stuff about the same illusion everyday would make you kind of weary - Seeing a masked, well-fed person stride about confidently who's more or less untouchable would only make the feeling worse.

Then they simply say "Why not join us?"

If I was in that situation I'd probably join Civil Protection for sure, assuming I wouldn't know about Gordon Freeman's existence.

But even what CP does has to make sense. I get that they're dicks. Making people Pick up cans. Harassing the citizens. Knocking over suitcases etc. I get that. But when you have them coming into a building attacking and interrogating everyone, there has to be a reason. Was it because the camera's noticed an extra head count (Gordan)? Which led to the raid on the area and building? I know the guy on the corner said they don't need a reason but he did say "they'll find one". There's always a reason for raiding a building and attacking everyone.

That was the impression I got. Some of what you see the CP doing while you're walking around I figured is just daily life in City 17. But when you get to the building where you escape from, they seem to be searching for someone (you), I believe you even hear the Overwatch voice mention something along the lines of an unauthorized person in that area.

That and the voice over lady says something about an extra unidentified head count or something to that affect. It certainly makes everything else (CP motives) make sense.

Actually, at the very beginning of the game, one of the camera drones takes a photo of you for identification.

This is when they discovered an unidentified personnel, which signaled police brutality across all sectors of city 17.

Seems like everybody in Half Life 2 was only able to eat chinese food,that Dr.Breens soda,some sort of beer and milk. Just an observation...but wat would they CP or Dr.Breen provide all the citizens of City 17 to eat?
