I was reading this and came across this little bit:
"One reason for failing to deliver the performance promises on both sides is the fact that both Microsoft and Sony products utilize 128-bit memory interfaces for the GPU, which cuts available bandwidth to half othat available on high-end products from the PC world."
Now I know the difference when it comes to a 128bit GPU vs a 256bit GPU is quite a big difference. I'm just a bit confused on why Sony or Micosoft would utilize a 128bit GPU? I mean pair up any 128bit vs 256bit and the 256bit will make the 128bit cry.... Hell if I was microsoft I would have went with the 256bit GPU...if anything would only make Sony bump up to a 256GPU to. Would of been a big blow to Sony and there pricing.

I thought the higher the "bit", the lower the bandwidth? Like how switching from 32-bit to 64-bit CPU architecture effectively halves your RAM, as it doubles the length of memory addresses.

Who really cares though? They are already getting an awful lot out of those 128 bits, so I am not worried.

I also don't get the point of the article really. Everyone has known for quite some time that PC hardware drives console hardware and is always better in a matter of months, so what's the point of saying that extreme high-end PCs are now capable of delivering more oomph--of course they are.

IMO, consoles have been great for delivering a certain type of gaming experience, but not the real place to go to look for the bleeding edge of tech. FPSs have turned that idea on its head a bit, as consoles now(at least for M$ and $ony) are all about the snazziest graphics for their first-person titles.

Its good to see Nintendo recognizing the fact the power struggle is ultimately fruitless and that the true next-gen will not just be the obvious graphical leap, but rather in the way we interact with the games. And the price of under $200 pwns as well!!!*

*Hopefully....
