I don't have a hugely powerful PC, only an Athlon64 3200+, 1GB RAM, 7600GS. It worked fine with Episode One, but I'm not sure how it'll work with the Orange Box (I thought Valve indicated performance would be bad if you didn't have a dual core?).

Those who've seen both the 360 and the PC version - which is the best option?

If the aim is to play the Orange Box, would you recommend spending $570 (Australian) buying a 360, or an equivalent amount (or more) upgrading the graphics card and buying a new motherboard/cpu?

I like the idea of playing it on the TV and giving Live a go; on the other hand, upgrading the PC would also fix performance on some other PC games (like World in Conflict). Tough call.

orange box should run just fine on your pc. maybe not at the highest settings but it will still be fun to play. honestly i would rather have pc over xbox soley for the modding.

What about with a new graphics card? Or to have a better experience than with the 360 would I also NEED to upgrade the CPU?

What socket does your motherboard have? If its a 939 you can get a dual core proc pretty cheaply (they're less than $70 US already).

I'd upgrade the computer if I were you. All you'd really NEED is a new CPU, but a new motherboard, CPU, video card, and RAM would obviously make a much larger difference.
