4 US soldiers charged with drowning Iraqi

well, i'd hope that everyone is aware of the problems within the US military, but we should be careful not to generalize about all soldiers? a good friend of mine is basra right now (he's british military), and i know he's a very decent guy, most soldiers probably are.

It's a big army, but the amount of rapists is still staggering. They even rape men! Good God.

yeah aboslutely. remember that rape is primarily an act of domination, more than sexual gratification. i imagine it's easy to be a monster when you don't see your enemy as humans.

yeah.. don't condemn people for wrote murder until you've walked a mile in their shoes . same with the insugent beheadings.. you can't criticize them until you fight their fight, right?

Voodoo_Chile, i found that odd too..

edit: lol @ adrien, godwin's law in effect! :)
My point is, you put people in a shitty situation, and they start to stink.

Wow the stench of fascism is overwhelming in this thread! Whether its an insurgent beheading a captured soldier, or a soldier drowning a captured insurgent its both wrong and horrible. People who could justify even one side of this debate make me sick.

The thing about the Iraq war is that there is no "good" side in it. Both sides are just as bad. It's the civilians in the middle that take most of the shit, as always.

so are you argueing that rules of conduct should just be thrown out of the window and let the free-for-all begin?

Absolutely not. They should be prosecuted for their actions. I am just saying this is a by-product of war and shouldn't be looked upon any differently because of their nationality and the specific war they are fighting.

fair enough. but this has little to do with your original post (imo), which came across as "don't judge US soldiers for killing innocents until you've been in war". that combined with your response to my post makes it sound as if you are condoning their actions. perhaps a misreading, but it sounds like we agree that the US soldiers that kill civilians in cold-blood are no better than the insurgents.

Well, I'm fairly certain it's not hosted by a hillbilly retard with anger management issues.

No, but it is hosted in america, which you think you know everything about, as I said in IRC mind your own business about your own country.

oh.. OH MY GOD! 3. 3... DOZEN?! while that is indeed unfortunate im willing to bet that at LEAST 4(0000) dozen were killed under saddams custody. yeah but ignore the mass genocide of his people, we killed 3 dozen. lets lynch some american soldiers!

I want to make sure I have this right:

1. It's bad if Saddam does it, but
2. It's okay if the US does it,
3. As long as we do it (a) more discreetly and (b) in smaller numbers.

I want to get one thing straight about my previous post. I wasn't condoning the drowning of the Iraqi prisoner or the harsh treatment of prisoners by US soldiers. It is wrong, reckless, and stupid. It's arguably just as bad as some of the terrorist atrocities. They will and should be punished. My point was that they make up a small facet of our armed forces and more importantly this behavior is not condoned by our government, unlike the insurgents who are supported for their atrocious behavior. My statement that you must be ignorant to say that the American military is as bad as the insurgents holds true, but I did mean it in a general sense, not the specific events such as the drowning and torture of prisoners.

Also, it seems to be that I have been pushed into the pro-war side. I'm not, I don't like this war and I never did. I also don't like the president and believe that he is doing a very bad job (same goes for Blair for going along with it). However, when I see people who are eager to bash America group the actions of a few criminals in with the entire military, I spoke up. 99% of our soldiers over there are good men doing their jobs, very hard jobs, and they deserve respect.

why dont they put this on TV ? lol... all I hear about on TV is Iraqi's doing the damage.

I feel its so one sided sometimes,

Democracy is right, and everything the war is for. is for good..?, and improving Economical developement... etc etc ,

....

someone doesn't watch the news very often...
since when they talk of iraq it's
a: car bombing
b: American brutality BS

i think that iraqis are terrorists and i dont feel bad about this at all..

im saying that prisoners deaths can be attributed to "a few bad apples" compared to a whole tree of shit. we punish those who punish wrongly, im saying its much better than the alternative

and shit merc, you mean INSURGENTS are "bad" not all iraqis, because they arent.

Im not going to say if i agree, or disagree with you becuase im not getting into this debate, but just let me tell you, run..***n as fast as you can, becuase now that you said that, you are about to flamed all the way to the end of hell.

it certainly is better than the alternative but that doesn't justify it. it's just the lesser of two evils.

i never said it justified it. im mad that people bitch about bush's foreign policy when they never bitched about saddam killing hundreds of thousands of people. everyone heres like "bush r gay" but ill guarantee you that none of them said that about saddam, at least not as fervently as they do about bush.

i think the bush haters are just as bad as the bush lovers. each side manages to rationalize their own opinions in any possible way.

you ppl need to get over it, it would happen with soldiers of any country.

i agree. i definatly dont like the man but i do agree with some of the things hes done.

you feel sorry for the US soldiers?????????? what is wrong with you? they drowned one person and nearly drowned another...for nothing!!

They do what they are ordered to do. Many soldiers are just in it to get help with college, or becuase their parents make them, or they just want to get into shape.

And like I said before, think of the environment they are in. They have no ties with the US public, they live in a dustbowl...I mean come on! This WOULD happen with soldiers...from wherever they may be from.

Probably for fun. It happens all the time in war.

i think he's probably partially right.. these soldiers probably thought it would be fun/funny. and i imagine despicable shit like this does happen in every war.

I'm so freaking tired of everywhere everybody hates bush. Al gore actually tried to disqualify many votes for bush. But has anyone heard of that? Noooooooo...

Screw it, im so freaking tired of political debates, as far as im concerned, political debates can get rammed up satans ass.

Source? First time I've heard of it.

It's just one of those things stuck in my head...random bits of trivia. My point is...

wait a minute

what is with this human urge to argue over politics? gad. just caught myself doing it. It makes me want to kill myself.

With the last post, i was trying to say i was about to argue over politics and caught myself doing it. It(the urge) made me want to kill myself. The source was an email my mom gets from friends. Now that i think about it, its not really verified. Something about a memo from al gores office instructing employees how to disqualify votes for bush in florida. It looked scarily real...

lots of things look real, doesnt mean you should believe them.

welcome to the internet, nothings real especially if it comes to your moms email from some spammer.

My mom used to work with the friend who sent the email to here. She regularly sends my mom interesting things she finds.
