PLZ DO NOT FLAME MEH... I hardly ever make posts like this but I really am curious......... would a ram upgrade boost my hl2 performance... rd ram upgrade cuz i think thats alll my mobo supports

for mah other specs see sig

<hides from flameing people>

Yes it will...*ah*

Edit: i mean that 512 meg is just great to play HL2.

can people not see the "HARDWARE FORUM"

Yes. It would most likley increase overall performance.... to upgrade

that doesnt mean you will gte more FPS.

I dont think you need to worry much.
But ram makes alot of difference in games such as these where there are so many large high resolution textures needed to be stored in the memory.
If you can. Maybe you should.

I sugest waiting untill you see reviews in mags or on the internet saying what they recomend. Hope that helped :)

sry bout not useing hardware forum )= me dumb and forgot about it

..... i have... a dell.......;(

thankz mark..... hmmm i think someone said it helps ut2k3 alot.... that would be yumy

Alright, I finally see someone else that is using RDRAM. Wahoo, now I don't feel so alone. LOL I got 512 Mb RDRAM too, mines PC800 - dual channel 400 MHz. I don't plan on upgrading, it should be more than enough.

haha yah... but I think it might improve me performance to get more......... my only problem is knowing how much it would actually help

I'll be honest; I wouldn't know for sure, but I don't really think anyone would at this point. What I would recommend doing is waiting and playing the game. If you think performance is ok, then obviously you shouldn't bother. I think with 512MB, we should have more than enough to run the game very high if the other parts of your machine are up to date. The min. requirement will probably be 64 or 128 MB. I'm guessing the recommended requirement won't be higher than 256, so with 512 we should be more than OK. Like I said, I would wait and see how it runs. I only have a Geforce 3 ti 500, and I am planning on buying a new vid card, but I'm waiting until after the game comes out. I want to see how it runs on my GF3, and plus, the prices on all vid cards will come down a little by then. Hope this helps.

YOU HAVE A DELL!! THAT'S NO EXCUSE!!

Ha, just kidding.

Anyway, 512 should be just fine. Just make sure you have a fast processer and fast vid card....

I'm actually planning on getting a Dell when I have enough money. I would custom build mine, but I wouldn't know what the hell I was doing. Plus I don't know about all the parts and stuff...

mah only concern is on ut2k3 and some other titles with max details my fps will drop below 20 when things get REALLY heated )= and then its hard to aim/movearound ect... i want perfection  sometimes the fps drops for no apparent reason it seems.... but usually i find out its cuz i was lookin at a horizon or somethin... idk

edit: see sys specs in sig

well I am going to use xms4000 for OC, it gives you 30% more BW over 3200, means more hourse power.

I don't think you're going to get much performance gain from buying more RAM. If you had only 256 MB, I'd say get more, but since you have 512 MB, I'd wait and see how it runs. No one will be able to answer your question directly because none of us have played it. So you're safest bet( to save money) is to get the game and then determine how you like it with the amount of RAM you have now. But I don't think going from 512 to 1024 would lead to a big improvement in performance...

Edit: If you really have to know the answer to your question now, your best bet would be to e-mail Gabe and hope he replies.

My email to gabe :

Hi,
I have an Athlon 1800+, 256ram, radeon 9600pro. Will i be able to enjoy hl2 or i will need an upgrade? Should i add more ram or are 256mb enough?

Thanks for your time

And his answer :
should be just fine

So with 512 you are more than fine! And you also have a better gfx and cpu so ... no you shouldnt upgrade anything!

eh yah i gues yer right..... but my current games get bottleneck fps's its kinda screwi i should get alil better at least

I think you meant "house power", I'm more techno but house is ok I guess.

512RDRAM is enough. Don't upgrade yet. Not until you start seeing slideshows...

Whoa, that performance is horrible for that system. My FPS never drops below 50 in UT2k3 at 1280x960 w/ 4xAA. Your system is quite similar (very slightlys lower CPU) and you say it gets down to 20? Glad I build mine instead of buying a Dell....

I use RD RAM also, (bad decision). mine is PC 1066

if youve got the cash go ahed, but rd ram is VERY VERY expensive. you need to have bottemless pockets.

I can't believe you guys would email Gabe Newell with crap like "will my cpu run fine?" or "is my head too far up my ass I can't read minimum requirements?".

"700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended."

rabidmeatloaf

p4p800 motherboard
2x corsair pc3200 xms 512 ram sticks in duel channel mode
cheiftech aluminum case
antec 420 watt psu
2.4GHZ P4 processor (overclock it a bit)
radeon 9700-9800 pro

good specs top of the line
around 1.2k? i'm getting this

no 512mb is not enough, you need at least 4GB of pc3500 XSM low latency ... :(
