A dumb idea I had about the gold date.

This just occurred to me, and I'm far too tired to sort it out logically in my head, so I'll just spit it out.

What if Valve is keeping the gold date under wraps, perhaps abruptly placing the game on store shelves, to lessen the load on Steam? I don't know if they have the situation planned and in hand, but I would be worried about the load on the servers come HL2 release day. If they release it covertly, then a lot of the hardcore gamers will still get it, and everyone else who wants it will still buy it, perhaps a few days later.

That would maybe give them the time to stabilize the servers, etc.
I dunno.

That's a good idea, but I doubt Valve would do it. They're gonna want it to be accessible to the largest number of people as possible the first day it's available, whether Steam can handle it or not.

Its the weekend. They have said anything to us all weekend. Im sure monday morning, or noon time the info will start trickling out as to their master plan. Either this monday, or next...

VERY VERY TRU SPITCODFRY!

i mean that is the WHOLE point of telling you a release date.

there is only 1 reason why they give a release date and that is so u will go out on the day and get it.

would you like it if all the games, movies, mags, errrrm papers WHAT eva was jus released? without telling u!? naaa

I was speaking theoretically, I don't actually think this will happen.

Although, in reply to spit, I don't see the logic in releasing a game to as many people as possible regardless of how well your servers can handle it, so you have a raving mob of people complaining about your shitty service, as opposed to selling to a few less people INITIALLY, and having everything run very smoothly :)
