Don't you hope that you will meet hell of a lot of allies in HL2. The parts I liked most in HL1 was the ones that contained Security Guards. And here it seems like the Vortigaunts are allied to you aswell, along with the Rebells, Barney, Alyx, Dr. Kleiner etc. So I really hope that there will be some great battles where you will fight along side with a lot others, don't you?

I hope you get moments like that but for the most part it is a solo op. I like seeing battles between marines and aliens but beyond that a single barney could be fun for a while and that's it.

Just my perspective.

I'd imagine instead of having Barney pop-up in Half-Life to accompany you (since he's now a central character, and there's only one of him), the Resistance fighters will take his place of being the expendable ally.

I hope an Otis appears at some stage :afro:

I hope I can order them around with commands like "go and throw rocks at that strider while I run for the car."

The rumour is that you'll have many different ways to go through the game right?
I hope you will be able to go through the game with a lot of allied npcs. Of course I know that HL2 just like HL will be mainly a solo experience but I wish that I could "chose" to play through hl2 with allies in maybe, one sixth of the game

yeah big battles (like the e32k4 vid) will rule, but Gordon on his own will be the best bits, i dont want Barney getting all the credit for taking down the striders :)

I think that it will be almost impossible to take down a strider alone.

Nah, just use a snowspeeder and the grapple gun.

I enjoyed the solitary parts of HL more than the areas that introduced allies. The feeling of being all alone, trapped and just trying to escape in one piece, is what HL is all about imo

I'm woried that if AI controlled allies are used too much the game will loose some of its original appeal. Then again, I guess Valve are going for a diferent experience this time.

Someone from Valve (probably Gabe) said that you'll hardly be completely alone in the game.

Indeed, I remember reading that. Like the other guy, I enjoyed the bits where you were alone :(

This game is set in different setting and will have different feeling to it. You are not trapped in the corridors of MORIA (sorry I always wanted to say it, I mean Black Mesa) anymore, and fighting in the city, well there bound to be someone. Game is now about total oppression.

I want most of the missions to be planned strikes against the combine, because this isnt a facility like BM so it will be alot harder to win, so it should be a warzone, flanking and artillary, cool stuff like that.

well in HL you were hardly ever alone a lot of the time, normally scientists or barneys. I do still like the soloness of it all.

To Abom, you got a point but i think there'll be far more of them, that's the only problem, too busy maybe.

You forgot that huge ass robot Dog...damn, I sure would love that thing fighting by my side, am I right?!

If you want mass fights like this (you and a bunch of allies against a lot of ennemies) go play COD, IMHO Gordon is best left alone, maybe some allies now and then, but mostly alone.

im sure valve has put in just the right amount of ally interaction. theyre making this game for the fans of the first, and during playtesting they would be able to tell if they went overboard with it.

Then again you know... a city isn't empty. City 17 SHOULD have some non-allied npc's just walking around right? According to VALVe the game will run over what, three days? Some of the fighting must be on daytime and there should be people in the city then.

from lookin at the video's, the people in blue are the normal guys, while the ppl in white are the ones in the resistance.

I hope there shall be some soldier style allies as well. Would make the mod i am planning so much easier to make.

This isnt a friggin war game, their is no artillery strikes. :)

You will probably have scanners flying above whenever you are fighting combine.

No doubt, especially since there were no air or artillery strikes in HL1. :rollsyeyes

Resistance groups with artillery in a City under totalitarian rule, suuuuuure.

Btw, snowspeeder + grappling hook needs 2 people anyway (1 flying, 1 shooting) . Not solo.

There will probably be more NPCs in the city, but in places like the coastline, the prison and Ravenholm it looks like you will be alone most of the time. If you are in command of the NPCs, perhaps you can leave them to guard an empty room and run off to complete the game alone :)

If you want to go solo , then KILL the npc-s and the allies.:P

man I hope you get to send out cannon fodder...or what if they make it so you get attached to your squad...like have them get veteran upgrades, like C & C Tiberian Sun

Whoa, whoa, you ally with Vortigaunts in HL2? Maybe I missed something, can anyone explain this for me?

EDIT: Sorry, I looked it up. Never mind!

You can make the decision to be alone if you want... if you know what I mean :dozey:

Vortigaunts

The alien slave enemy from the original game's Xen world has joined you in the battle to save human kind. Why this old foe decided to join you is still uncertain but look forward to finding out why when playing the game.
