The video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128 meg

I'm not sure if it's the drivers or not, but on certain areas of the game, (most notably the loading tunnels on Highway 17) I get horizontal white lines. They are very thin, and disappear when I get closer to them. I thought the problem might have been with the game, but then I noticed I get similar lines in HL: Source.

Anyone have/had this problem and fixed it? I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers (I think, they're from ATI's page)
I've also heard good things about the Omega drivers. I might give them a try.

edit-it appears ATI's drivers are new as of the 17th of this month. Maybe I'm NOT updated. Still...any help is appreciated

Yeah, go and try the latest drivers. If that doesn't work then it may be a bug in the graphics engine.

If so, rather than uninstalling the game and reinstalling it or downloading it, you can just click here to validate your game files are good and if there are any problems it will download any files that are missing/corrupt.

The whole process will take approximately 5-10 minutes.

So I went and got the latest drivers, and much to my dismay the problem still exists. I didn't have the issue with my old geforce 2 ti. I wonder what it could be.

I'll try install the latest Omega's and report back with any news.

wer can you download the omega? is it also applicable to my Radeon 9200 SE?

any chance of posting a picture of the problem?

yes.

The vertical line you see is one of the few that cycle/rotate. They also appear on the sides of the tunnel. On another note, anyone else have odd artifacts on the edges of their water (dx9) on this level when viewed from far away?

here

That is a thing called banding, basically trying to reproduce a gradient of colors with limited colors gives these bands which become far more obvious to our eyes because of the way they work

You could try older drivers, but I think it's a game issue. You could try adjusting brightness and gamma to minimize the problem.

Even if I zoom in on the given area, the problem completely goes away. I understand the link you gave me, but this problem seems different. Anyone else experience the problem and have any solutions/fixes?

Have you done this yet?

yea...it didn't fix the issue. It's not THAT big of a problem anyways. Oh well.

On another note to others thinking of trying the Omega drivers, I installed them and tried to run HL2. I got the error "Engine Error: could not initiate shader..." So be warned if you haven't tried them and are thinking to.

Those of you who are using them successfully, more power to ya.

I have that same problem.
I think its from using AA on the edges of brushes that are touching. it antialiases one edged but not the other so there is a semitransparent white line left there. Not sure if anyone knows a fix yet.
