i just got up to go to the bathroom and i found a textbook in there. no one else was in the bathroom with me. there is no name in the book. i could probably make 80 bucks by selling it back to the university bookstore. what should i do? if i turn it in to lost and found (first gotta find out if there's a lost and found department) then anyone could claim it because there's no name in it.

if someone here goes to FAU in boca raton florida and lost a psychology book, send me a PM, otherwise im probably gonna sell it (of course i will take into consideration whatever you guys say here)

Life screws you over enough times, you should sell it. At the same time you're teaching the owner about carelessness.

seriously man, i spent 500 bucks on all my books and i make damn sure i dont put them down. this thing was sitting right next to the sink my books are in my hands or in the trunk of my car, and never anywhere else.

also if this were a video game i would sell it without a second thought and say aloud "SCORE!!"

If the old conscience is bothering you you could give it to a friend, if you know someone who needs that book.

Or better yet annouce you'd found a book and if anyone can tell you what book they lost and where they lost it then they're probably the owner and not some random person.

You better not sell that book. College textbooks are expensive. You have no idea of the financial condition of the person who lost the text book. $100 is a lot of money.

If you go to a smaller university, go to the professor who teaches that class. It shouldn't be too hard to find. I'm willing to bet the professor will have an easier time finding the student who lost it than turning it into the lost and found.

Completely agree.

Textbooks are so damn expensive. Chances are the poor guy who lost is can't afford a new one. Find a way to get it back to him/her.

who are you talking to?

Just kidding, mate. I never said hello to you a year ago(since I wasn't member back then), so I say it now.

oh ok, uh, hi. i think one of us needs a nap because im somewhat confused.

give book to teh lost property department, think of others before yourself

Honestly I wouldn't have touched it in the first place, the thought of selling it wouldn't even have crossed my mind to tell you the truth. But yeah you should sell it and get the Collector's Edition of HL2

Agreed. There is no moral dilema that I can see. I don't think you should sell something that isn't yours.

Me: textbooks cost money. You could be forcing the owner to live on the streets as a hobo by selling it!

Evil me: Sell it! Sell it! Morals? Pah! Sell!

Sorry, I'm in two minds about this. This is one of those things you have to do for yourself... ;)

tough choice! the owner might come from a really rich familly and replaced it already...

id take the chances and sell it. write the name of somebody you hate in it, and your set.

Is it worth gaining a bunch of money and selling it to let the guy who bought it go without the book? Think of the person, perhaps he's a very poor student? Or perhaps he's a very rich one and you're in grave need of the money and you dont' care.

Either way, you have to decide for yourself.

If I were in your boots.. I'm not sure. I'd probably try finding the guy who lost it and if I'm unsuccessful after about a week, I'd sell it or give it away to a friend who needs it.

Put out a thing about a lost book (they must tell YOU what it was though)

If nothing comes up- sell it then/give it away/what have you.

Don't sell it, you're not just hurintg the owner, you will be ripping off who ever you sell it to if you sell it. even if you sell it cheap, it's still a ripp-off because it's not your anyway.

Come on man, this doesn't need counselling, just follow your conscience.

oh and, don't regret not selling it, something in you will probably tell you "oh shit I could've soled it and got money!" but don't listen to it.

Imagine that you lose your own book and you did not write your name in it. Trust me, you will be very happy to find it back, especially if its worth 100$.

I totaly agree! give to the teacher and let him know this book was found. tell to say it was lost but only let him give to the student with some specifics, like how long ago it was that he lost it or where he might hve lost it.

Found it in the bathroom eh? How do you know you didn't steal someones toilet paper?
Set a deadline for finding the owner (could be a week, a month...whatever is reasonable considering they might replace it in that time anyway), and if you don't find them, then sell it.
