Drug cop Fred(Keanu Reeves) is working undercover to catch Bob a big-time drug dealer. Little does he realise that he is chasing himself, as Bob is really just one of Fred's many personalities.

All you need to know is that Fred and Bob are fighting each other and Fred wins in the end as he is a good guy.

Well, considering that Phillip K. Dick wrote a story called "A Scanner Darkly" dealing with drugs and split personalities and such, it's a safe bet to say that the film is based on the book.

Not to mention it actually says "Based on the story by Philip K. Dick" in the trailer...
Rotoscoping is a really cool effect, but it seems a bit gimmicky to me. But I guess you couldn't get some of those effect to look as neat without it (eg when he peels of his skin like it's a shirt)
