About to download HL1: Source off Steam. Are there any urgent patches I need?

Hi. Are there any urgent patches or mods I need to grab before I start playing HL1: Source? Or does Steam automatically do this for you already?

By the way, is this game easier or harder than part2 and it's episodes? I just played them and man, some parts were really tough(defend the silo base anyone?).

Much harder as a whole but nothing as intense as defending the silo. Playing it on normal is probably the most enjoyable, as playing it on the hard setting really ups the enemy hit points while your smg(which is probably going to be the weapon you use the most) is pretty inaccurate.

HL1 is more difficult. On hard mode enemy soldiers can absorb a full SMG clip and not go down, a certain enemy fires very quickly a shot that is nearly impossible to dodge and a certain enemy gains the ability to turn invisible. Don't play on hard unless you want to die and reload every minute or unless you're very, very good at HL1.

The problem with HLS as opposed to normal HL1 is that there are no mods available for it and the expansion pack Opposing Force won't work with HLS, only normal HL1.

I don't think it's much harder. The final battle is tough but up to that point it's not too bad.
