I finally got to sit at my machine again for the first time in several days, and when I started HL2 up, I was treated to an automatic update from Steam - the read me was bland, citing a few fixes to this and that, so I played on. After I loaded up my saved position ( in city 17, nearing the end) I was amazed to find that the normal console cheats no longer work - the items are now unrecognized (battery, healthkit, ammos, etc)

I am interested in whether or not anyone has run into this situation and successfully got around the new restrictions.

Update -

I quit out and restarted the game. This time an update to the steam system itself was found and downloaded/installed - the result was that the console codes worked again. Strange, but what the heck - I got what I wanted.
