I've heard rumours that Aftermath will only be available through Steam. Is this true?. I hope not, otherwise it might be a long time before I am able to play it.

At first it was going to be Steam only but in a recent interview Doug Lombardi stated that it would also be available through retail stores. I'm not 100% certain the retail version will be ready on the ship date though. With the current mess they're going through with the publishers it's hard to say anything for certain.

This is VUG's last publishing deal for VALVe I think. Not sure in the contract if it says that they can't publish any new things, or if they will use their new publisher if they are ready to announce.

If VUG is going to publish, obviously they want to get money off of it for themselves, and probably hope they can get a profit to counter-balance those legal fees. So their little fiasco shouldn't cause a huge problem, I think...

The whole reason for the hold up on a more public statement about Aftermath retail is that they haven't finalised their publishing partner yet. It defies all sense for VUG to be releasing it, considering that their contract to supply the entire back catalogue runs out on August 31st.

Whew. That makes a die-hard HL fan like me, very happy. I just hope, being only 3-4 hours long, it won't be priced at $40 or something.
