It's that time again when we speculate if there will be a pre-load this thursday or indeed this week.

I'm guessing that yes there will be a pre-load, and I'm also hoping it'll be a good chunk, 500mb or so.


Let's keep this thread alive discussing all info regarding preload 4.
 
Yeah but look at the odds

2 times on thursday

1 time friday

Can't argue with statistics
 
When there was no preload on thursday night, I didn't expect anything to come anytime soon. I was very shocked friday to say the least. Seems they're keeping a steady pace now, so my vote is for yes we will see another preload late into this week.
 
Probably see a gold/last preload.
 
This is probably better suited in Rumours/Speculation, wouldn't you think?

That said, the precedent of one preload per week seems to have been set, but keep in mind that the last two preloads were unannounced until they started.
 
forget pre-loading suckers.
post-loading is the next big thing.

the first preload was announced. it was delayed an hour, but announced that it would start in an hour, and it did.

Damn... I was hoping HL2 would go gold on Thursday.. T.T
 
Is this the week Half-Life 2 goes gold (If they are quick by Vivendi at least)?
 
Hopefully the 15th a gold announcement will be made. But I don't really trust the comment made by Lombardi....

Well, time will tell us I suppose.
 
The 15th is the date the RC gets sent to VU... doubt it'll be made gold on that day, maybe the 17th (friday) if were lucky.

Thats if it actually does get sent to them by the 15th...
 
Gold announcement will NOT be made on the 15th.. more like the 17th..
Vivendi needs to play the game althrough, perhaps even twice.. who know..

Then we have to wait for the SDK right?

Knowing VU wants to sell it in the holidays and valve doesn't care, they are going to look for any detail at all, even some that probably aren't a huge issue at all just so they can get valve to work on the game more and more, just watch.

hahaha (you're paranoid, and quite possibly delusional).

to all the people praying for a gold announcement on the 15th or 17th or xx day, don't hold your breath, don't get so hyped up, can't you see you're just setting yourself up for a dissapointment? if you have the attitude of "ok it'll be done and in stores whenever it's ready to be" then you'll be much less let down.
 
A question though...
As HL2 is beeing released, will people be able to download (note, not preload) the game from Steam to use it anyway?
ATM we can PRELOAD, but what about DOWNLOAD, when it´s released? you think it´ll be there then?

preloading IS downloading.
 
I dont see any reason why it wont be treated like any other steam downloadable game.
I Fully expect you will be able to download and purchace it once it is released.
it is a rather big download though would hate to try it on dialup.

valve are only pre-loading because if they waited till after final release the one million people trying to download 2gig at once would bring thier servers to thier knees. this way they get to stretch it out and releive pressure on thier servers
 
Valve is completely unpredictable, for all we know those were the majority of the preload phases except for like 2 that they may not preload for another 1-2 months....
 
One thing. I have two computers. One at my Dad's and one at my Mom's. Will I be able to play it on both with one CD key as long as I sign in on both with my login name for Steam? Or will Steam restrict it to one computer?
 
What's with all the hype over a preload?.. I'll be happy when I actually get to play the game.

you can sign in on both computers with one steam account (not at the same time of course).

It's human instinct to find and/or follow patterns, which, eventually, become habits etched into our brains. I think it takes 21 days for something you do every day to become habit in your mind. Well, why I say that is because Valve is seemingly following a pattern of preloads every Thursday/end of work week. By this we can conclude another preload will begin Thursday or the end of the week.

All things considered, along with the proposed RC being sent to Vivendi on the 15th, it is likely we have but two or three weeks left till release:
- RC sent to Vivendi on the 15th. Gold status on the 17th(assuming all goes well)
- Another preload this Thursday, but final preload before release?(Sept. 17th)
- Next Thursday another possible final preload or retail release.(Sept. 24th)
- If previous Thursday was simply a preload, this particular Thursday(Oct. 1st), maybe even Tuesday(Sept. 28th), has a good chance of being release date.

Personally, it looks like next week will be final preload, and sometime during the following week will be release.

Will I be able to play HL2 while offline? Because my Dad doesn't have any sort of internet access, so I'll have to bring the one other there to my Mom's to download it onto there. As long as I keep Steam logged in, but offline, I should still be able to play it right?
 
If they send the RC on the 15th hopefully it will get approved in a couple like HL was. Unless there's some serious problems Vivendi isn't nitpick the little details, so if there's no showstopping bugs and the game is as good as everyone says it is, they'll get it out asap. Publishers aren't known to be perfectionists (*cough* EA) and really it makes no sense to sit on it.
 
Doug didn't say they were going to send the RC on the 15th, he said they are trying to send it BY the 15th. Which means they could do it before the 15th.

"We're currently planning to send release candidates to Vivendi by September 15th" - doug

I really feel that we are in the final chapter of this long and agonising story, this week will be very eventful, I am very excited.

Well, if the next phase isn't a preload, then it most definitly has to be release.

Not really, I predict preload 4 and the GOLD statement this week.


If by saturday 1 or both of these events has not happened then quote this post to me and make me look stupid.

I'm taking an emotional leap of faith.
