Alpha release on wenesday, need players

As the topic says, the mod I and a few other guys have been working on (as a bachelor thesis) has its alpha release this wenesday (later wenesday +1 GMT no exact time set as of yet) and we need a few people to try out the game and then answer a few simple questons to help us make the mod better. It shouldn't take too much time.

Alright, short about the mod then. It's a HL2 MP space mod where you fly around in a space ship in different sci-fi settings. For the alpha we're looking to use a moon base, so the maps are not too big but stil you have the space elements of no gravity etc.

-The gameplay itself is basically team deathmatch and the focus of the game is fast action with instant respawn if you die.

-The weapons are picked up and not bought as in CS. I'm not going to go into details on what weapons but for the final product we're looking to incorporate laser weapons and such too, but for alpha release we have the main cannon and missiles.

-The ship can also move in almost any direction, and can rotate around all tre axis (unlike for example CS where you could only rotate through the x-axis).

-In order to be able to flee and to aviod the problems of fast deathmatch that you kill one guy and then get owned yourself we have the boost ability which gives you aruond twice the speed, making it easier for you to flee from enemies (or to pull off some tactic moves).

Anyways, just some features from the game. There's lots more on power ups and stuff but it's probably not going to be incorporated to the alpha release and maybe not at all so no point in talking about it.

I hope I'm making some sense on what the game is about, and hope someone could spare 15-20 mins for some testing. Our focus is on gameplay, so even though the content may seem weak our priority is to have quality content instead of large quantities of content with low quality. That's why we need testers :)
 
Alpha released

Well we ran a LITTLE late with releasin the alpha. It's an alpha version with a capital A, lots of small fixes to do and that made us run late. Still there's alot more to do to improve the game but it is in fact playable, and the one tester so far definatly thought it had merit.

The problem here is I don't have time right now since I have class class tomorrow to test out the installer but it should work. If it doesn't i'd appreciate feedback on that and I'll get on it as soon as I get back from school (in 14-15 hours). If someone wants a server set up I can provide that too, even players can be provided :farmer:

Anyway I hope someone can find 15-20 mins to try out the game and give us some good feedback.
 
Does it have a name, website and/or screenshots?

Preliminary name is Tunnel Interception Squad, we're looking to have something real later on.

There is a website but we've only used it internally and it's in swedish, no point in putting it up here. I'll have a dude work on it so I can put it up here for the rest of you guys.

New version up. Same link as before.

A few bugs taken care of and general tweaking of the game.
 
Another version up with a few gameplay changes like

main map moonbase has more light now
ship model is smaller
hitbox is now tightl aligned with the ship
missiles do a little less dmg
tweaking of main cannon

also changed to installer and readme added.

Same dl link as before. What I need is basically someone trying out the installer at least and giving me some feedback. I can arrange with dedicated server and even players..

Played around with it some and it reminds me alot of the old game Descent, I like.

:D Descent was definatly a source of inspiration so you're on the right track.

Nothing new on it, but we're planning to add some troubleshooting material, maybe a faq and in general some more content.
 
Yet another update. New Alpha version is up with some fixes.

Changes: 25.04.07
* Moonbase map is updated with map fixes and health kits as well as more weapons.
* New rocket model, rockets fire from both sides
* New icons for weapons
* Start up text with game description and other help
* New model for primary weapon
* Player ship will explode now when dying
* New ship model, new textures

Not sure we'll recruit anyone, basically we've been keeping it to the original gang since it's a bachelor thesis project and we wanted to do everything by ourselves, but not impossible that we'll let other people in (or totally give the code to interested parties) when we've had our final release in 2.5 weeks. If you're interested in the future in mapmaking I can run it with the others since we really have one mapmaker and I'm sure he wouldn't mind some help. But try it first and see what you think.

I'm running a server at 9 pm (in approx. 15 mins) so for those interesting to try out the game there should be a server. Unless I've screwed up somewhere :D :laugh:
