Amazing seatbelt PSA

A very beautiful and well thought-up PSA indeed :)

The part where he rockets forward gets me shivers every time.

Who doesn't wear seatbelts in this day and age?

According to statistics I've read, 60-86% of people... even though 90% of them know it's a good idea.

The statistics seem kind of high to me... so I'm gonna try to find some more.

I got one set from here by the way...

http://www.jmu.edu/safetyplan/vehicle/generaldriver/safetybelt.shtml

More than 90 percent of all motorists believe safety belts are good idea, but less than 14 percent actually use them.

Wow - that's powerful. Just doesn't phase me much due to having worn seat belts since I first jumped in a car.

Wow. 14%

Jeeze, it's muscle memory for me!

That's impressive, considering you're in Texas. For a while I was positive that cars in Texas didn't have seat belts... or turn signals... or brakes...

Turn signals definitely not. I notice about 70% of the cars I encounter on the road don't use their turn signals.

Pretty powerful advert. I always wear my seat belt, crazy not to. I don't trust other drivers around me most of the time!

Your fined and get demerit points if you don't :/

I love watching cops on shows pulling people over, and as they pull over you can see them blatantly hastily putting their seatbelts on.

'You werent wearing a seat belt were you?'

'Yes I was'

*slap*

At the end of the day, its the individual's problem/responsibility. You have a crash and you couldve been saved by your seat belt, even if its a short trip to the shops, then thats your bad. End of story. Youre an idiot for not using it, so you'll get no sympathy from me.

Personally I wont go anywhere in my car until everyone inside has a belt on. I'll just sit there until they put it on. If the laugh it off, I'll turn the engine off and just stare at them in the mirror. My car, my rules.

Yeah theres arguments against damage being done as a result of wearing one, but I'd rather have a broken rib or collapsed lung or ruptured internals as a result of the seat belt than being flung out the window or faceplanting the dashboard and killing myself outright.

Either way if you have a crash, its going to be all bad. The only positive is that youre alive at the end of it. Its completely dependant on the variables of the crash itself;

Saw one of those Daewoo Damas vans (the small ones with a flat front and the engine is in the middle, so youre basically sat over the front wheels) out here in Africa in the middle of a crossroad; the entire driver's side of the front of the car was caved in past the driver's seat and almost half way down the vehicle as it had impacted something (truck maybe) from the front off-centre. They all drive like idiots over here anyway, but seat belt or not, theres no way the guy survived the crash.

Thats a load of crap. I dont know where they got their stats from, but they are way, way off for the US. Maybe those are worldwide statistic? In the US around 85% of people use seatbelts, and I dont think its ever been a low as 14% since seatbelts in production became mandatory.

In 2008, seat belt use stood at 83%, up from 82% in 2007.

I DID say they looked high, and that I was trying to find other statistics.

My seatbelts stopped retracting a long while ago so I just stopped using them

Ha, I wasnt trying to offend you, I was just pointing out how wrong that site was.

Bitch, you got me so angry I was ready to hop in the car without a seatbelt and run over a few strays!

Amirite?

Norn Irn ads are far better.

No.

HEY EVERYONE LOOK HOW SHOCKING AND DISTURBING AND AWFUL OF A SCENARIO WE CAN CONJURE UP

ISN'T IT TERRIBLE OMG PUT ON YOUR SATBOLT

Conjure? Are you stupid? It is ****ing terrible, and idiots who drink and drive probably don't think shit will happen becouse they'll "take it easy" and drive "slow". Don't play this off as some lame exageration. In real life, some manga chick won't jump infront of a crashing car and cut it in half with a Katana to save you Vegeta. That's cartoons.

I didn't say it was an exaggeration.

You're ****ing missing the point.

The point of the ads are to make you pay attention and see the unforeseen consequences of your actions, not to show you "seat-belt work like this!"

Come on, if that's all you gathered from the seatbelt PSA in the original post... you fail. You have to see a lot deeper than "seat-belts work like this."

It's powerful because it's showing family, and how family is one of the main contributors to good seatbelt habits. A little daughter nagging her dad to put on her seatbelt... a wife doing the same. Family looking out for family. Your family is your safety line because they are likely to be the ones to get you to put your seatbelt on if you're the type of person who doesn't.

That's precisely the reason they used a daughter and his wife to do it. With them, his life is saved.

"THIS WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T WEAR YOUR SEATBELT"

Yeah, very deep stuff.

Why does it have to be so gawdamn deep? Do you think people will watch it and say "hmm, that sure spelled it out for me, but screw that, I need some deep, emotional message. **** seatbelts/Driving sober."?

Dead babys isn't enough?

The gorey type commercials are completely typical. It's what makes the one in the OP a little refreshing.

Why should that kind of commercial be refreshing?

I think I could make road safety PSA's.

Drive normally
BLAM
Carnage
Message

Yeah let's just scare people into obeying instead of actually making them think and make the decision on their own.
