this might sound stupid, but do any AMD mobos support PCI-E? I havent seen any.

There ought to be some new ones coming out dead soon. VIA, NVIDIA and ATI are all releasing chipsets about now (ish), so expect some boards soon!

wait for nforce4, they'll have sli on those boards too (the higher quality ones anyway).

PCI-E = no PCI-X then yes, PCI-E is suppose to be the faster one but we'll find out

No, you have that backwards.

PCI-E = PCI Express, which is out there. There isn't PCI-X around.

the nForce4 chipset was recently introduced, and we'll see PCI-E mobos there.

nForce 4 should be out in early 2005, so I would wait for that.

ahh..but what if you are like me and you NEED a new computer asap so that you can play half-life 2..then what do you do?

buy one now.. lol i have learned you CANT keep up with technology..someone is always ahead in the game. Just buy a good comp now then maybe upgrade end of the summer next year.

PCI-E or PCI-Express on Athlon 64 boards is closer than around the corner. They have been shown and they will be out with in a matter of weeks.

PCI-X is a 64Bit version of PCI (32Bit). It's been around for a number of years. Generally only seen in servers and workstations.
PCI-Express is a totally new design that scraps AGP and PCI.

acually the nforce4 based motherboards are supposed to be on sale at the very end of october/begining of november :-D
I've got a couple hundred dollars put away for a new nforce4 mobo.

my plan of action..

getting an FX-55 and X800xt withOUT nforce4 or PCI-E then probley end of next fall I will upgrade to SLI.
